Y2K earns points for ambition and sheer audacity, even if it struggles to keep the laughs coming while maintaining a messy tonal blend.

Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's funny here and there... But it runs out of steam, feeling like a sketch that was stretched out into a feature length film. Jan 17, 2025 Full Review Adam Graham Detroit News ... A series of references to Surge soda, Tae Bo, dial-up sounds and Nintendo 64 does not a movie make. Rated: D Dec 13, 2024 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com This scattershot, blood-drenched comedy of cybernetic terrors frequently loses connection. Like the promising early days of the internet, its only lasting legacy will likely be one smothered in disappointment and missed opportunity. Rated: 1.5/4 Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Ian Bunting Daily Record (UK) Y2K is a missed opportunity that doesn’t offer super scares or hearty humour; just switch off to this one. Jan 21, 2025 Full Review Sean P. Means The Movie Cricket [Mooney] makes “Y2K” a movie that’s hilariously gory, smartly comic and surprisingly sweet, the very sort of movie that would play perfectly at a teen sleepover circa 1999. Rated: 3/4 Jan 18, 2025 Full Review Rob Thomas Not That Rob Thomas (Substack) “Y2K” feels put together from discarded pieces of other movies, fusing together pieces of slasher horror, sci-fi disaster, stoner teen comedy and snarky social commentary. Rated: 2/4 Jan 3, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews
