      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Visually stylish but a narrative non-starter, Yakuza Princess serves as an unhappy reminder that action is rarely a substitute for an interesting story.

RELLISH It had very good elements in the filmmaking, & MASUMI'S performance as Akemi, has me wanting more from her, but the movie as a whole shouldn't have been released til they figured out the quirks and actually had a high Concierto piece for the end. It Dive bombed so much at the end, it felt like they ran out of budget, would've been a stronger Film if it was a Short vs a Feature. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review David B Even though I started watching this from the beginning, it took a long time for things to start to make sense - I stuck around for that, since the action was good enough to keep me watching until it made sense...but the "setup for sequel" ending was disappointing... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Maik S The definition of average. No really likeable characters, a simple plot. Filming emphasizes glossy pictures, no subtle editing. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/24 Full Review Mrcia A This is a good start for a mixed new experience. I am Japanese descendant, born in Brazil and I really understand the views and intentions of this film. It should have better narrative, for sure. Unfortunately, action movies need very clears explanations for some people. But the visual, the colors, the textures make up for it. They are wonderful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/26/22 Full Review Faith While the plot is slow moving and the female lead can be view as "sluggish" as some people describe. This movie has a good storyline with realistic fight scenes. In addition, the potential for a great sequel. A must watch for this genre of movies if your a fan. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/22 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to a sequel. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Jana Monji RogerEbert.com There's not much to recommend about this film outside of bringing attention to the sizable ethnic Japanese population in Brazil. Rated: 1/5 Oct 11, 2021 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com But while there are sudden bursts of violence throughout, Amorim paces things so sluggishly it ends up being up to the performances to maintain the viewer's interest. Rated: 2/4 Sep 17, 2021 Full Review Mike McCahill Guardian Like street-cart fusion cuisine, this film will fill a hole, if you have a particular hankering. Rated: 3/5 Sep 8, 2021 Full Review Daryl MacDonald InSession Film Stilted acting, and more interest in style than storytelling. Rated: D Apr 26, 2024 Full Review Josh Parham Next Best Picture With such inert propulsion, unattractive designs, and terribly conceived dialogue, the weight of the film's deficiencies crushes any precious few positives. Rated: 2/10 Jun 8, 2022 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Japanese women rarely get to star in an action flick, so it's a shame that Yakuza Princess is such mindless junk that isn't even a worthy showcase for the female protagonist. The men in this incoherent movie actually get most of the screen time. Oct 18, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
