Marie L I highly recommend this movie. Definitely skip the animated remake from 2009 that strangely leaves out the history and moral lessons found in this version. The costumes and set are historically accurate and the story is well written. There are a couple of "corny" fight scenes that were mentioned in other reviews however, the audience should keep in mind that this is a Christmas movie and not an action movie and is appropriate for all audiences especially children. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/02/23 Full Review Anthony W The movie is corny. It's not believable, especially the abundant mockery of an impoverished family. The family dynamic is syrupy sweet and obnoxious. Yes Virginia, the Casting is Sloppy. Ed Asner is type cast as a newspaper editor (Lou Grant in 1897). John Boy (Richard Thomas) plays an underemployed scrappy Irish father whose fight scenes would have best been left to Charles Bronson. As for Bronson, nice try; at least you attempted something different. This movie is exactly what you get when you take an incomplete story, and smash it into the Hollywood cinematic formula for a family Christmas movie. Absolutely wretched. Stuck in an already bad genre, this Christmas movie stands out as putrid. This attempt at the Dickensian plot, is trite and unentertaining. Don't bother. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member I have not seen this movie in several years and am truly saddened that I haven't. It has to be one of the best Christmas movies I have ever seen. As far as I am concerned, it rates right up there with all the Christmas classics and should be shown every yes I Recommend it.
