Jim Carrey's comic convulsions are the only bright spots in this otherwise dim and predictable comedy.

Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express [Jim Carrey] connects with you, off and on, to make you laugh. Only thing is, Carrey's face-pulling, eye rolling antics have been served up once too often to for us to be enamoured anew. Rated: 1.5/4 Mar 5, 2024 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Carrey plays his humor closer to the bone and the result is funnier, more heartfelt and more believable. francisco m SI señor ! es lo mejor que hay sin duda Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review Vitor D come on guys, it´s such a funny movie!! What do you guys want?? I love every character especialy Jim, Zoe and Rhys. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/10/24 Full Review Nathan W I know a lot of people criticized this as just another wacky Jim Carrey movie, but it was so much more than that. The premise was interesting, the story was light and amusing, and the acting was surprisingly good. (Can't say that about too many of his comedies). There were some of the familiar Carrey antics we've come to know and love, but it was used sparingly and never felt too over-the-top. I also found the overall message to be quite relevant and inspiring. About taking chances, because you never know what good things you might be missing out on. I thought Jim and Zooey had decent chemistry together, which made the unlikely romance all the more touching. Just a heartfelt romantic comedy that deserves more praise than it gets. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/16/24 Full Review Jeff M On the roller coaster ride of Jim Carrey's career, when it comes to his "wacky" comedies, I'm afraid this one falls closer to the cinematic atrocities that are the ACE VENTURA movies than the comic highlights of DUMB AND DUMBER or LIAR LIAR. Although Carrey excels here in a couple laugh out loud funny physical bits, overall I felt a strain to his performance, like he was almost trying too hard to be funny (and for Carrey, that's saying a lot). And I didn't feel a lot of joy from him here - I got a definite "time to make the donuts" vibe. The biggest problem with the whole movie is that the central conceit just isn't all that funny and quickly becomes monotonous. Movies like GROUNDHOG DAY have proven that repetition does not necessarily equate with monotony, but the script here is not good enough to sustain interest. I've never quite caught on to the charms of Deschanel - I admittedly am not familiar with most of her stuff - but she and Carrey are kind of a dud as a couple, and I didn't feel any connection or chemistry between them. It's interesting to see Cooper only a few years away from taking the movie world by storm, but it's a nothing role. The whole thing feels like a movie Adam Sandler would have rejected. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/24 Full Review Matt M Great, fun movie with lots of LOL moments. Jim Carrey is excellent. If you're a Carrey, fan you will love this. Lifts the spirits! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Ashley H I didn't get the hype. It's a No for me. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
