Chris Chang Film Comment Magazine A twisted exegesis on the dissolution of identity, the disappearance of will, and, eventually, the loss of mind. Nov 7, 2013 Full Review Chuck Bowen Slant Magazine Some will find the film compelling, but underneath the riddles it's basically a self-important proclamation of "who the hell knows?" Rated: 2/4 May 11, 2012 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times Moments of insight flare like fireflies and disappear, whether from underfinancing or overambition is unclear. Rated: 2.5/5 May 10, 2012 Full Review C.J. Prince Way Too Indie A thought-provoking experience, and hopefully just the beginning of Daniel Cockburn's career in filmmaking. Rated: 7.4/10 Jun 29, 2019 Full Review Shelagh Rowan-Legg That Shelf Cockburn poignantly finds a strange expression for how people think, the thoughts that we think no one else will understand, and our attempt to interpret the world around us. May 15, 2018 Full Review Jim Slotek Jam! Movies If one definition of an "art film" is that you still have no idea what's going on halfway through, then You Are Here is definitely an art film, so successfully does it defy one's need for things to make sense. Karl J When rating and reviewing a film like this, made on this kind of budget, and by a first time director who's better known for video art and shorts, it's important to keep things in perspective. I would compare watching this to the feeling I got the first time I watched Richard Linklater's first film, Slacker: you never really know what's going on in terms of any larger story or narrative, but the individual vignettes are compelling, and like Slacker, you might discover a few threads that tie the whole thing together. That alone is enough to make this worthwhile for those predisposed to appreciate art films. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/13/23 Full Review Jesse P Probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my entire life Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/15/22 Full Review Audience Member This pile of garbage should have seen its death at the Film Festival. Now it will disappoint a larger audience with a broader release. A bunch of disjointed surreal scenes signifying nothing under the direction of one of the most narcissistic people I have ever encountered. May grant money find more rewarding projects. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Brainy puzzle of a pic has many enjoyable moments, slowly culminating into a fairly satisfying denouement. Reminded me a bit of Pi, and has that film's ultra low budget, although this is truly one of a kind. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A disappointing film on a number of levels. More like a series of short films that don't really end up coming together than one film. The most disappointing part for me was that there were glimpses of some great ideas across some of the different stories, but not being able to bring them together ultimately means this fails at being a film.
