Tori So very funny and heartwrenching, amazing acting, characters who go through substantial growth, a lesbian main couple who love each other more than anything, David Tennant in ridiculous/fantastic clothing- what more could you want? I genuinely just created a rotten tomatoes account to rate this movie positively because I COULD NOT BELIEVE how low it's rated on here! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Was not a fan of this really at all 1.9 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/13/21 Full Review Audience Member I legit had to double-check it had female involvement in directing and such which there was. What started off as what was a lovely if not unequal queer relationship turns into a shit show when one (Olivia) artificially inceminates herself without discussing it with her partner(Alex). Olivia then gets angry at Alex when Alex is raped and gets pregnant by their neighbour (was pareletcally drunk and is presented as a very proud lesbian) Olivia then pushes her to tell the rapist she's pregnant to gain financial support. Olivia then gets even more pissy when the rapist takes responsibility for the pregnancy and attempts to be a decent human being in supporting them as they're both pregnant. All this ends in poor Alex having to give birth to a stillborn on her own after they have a fight at the baby shower. All this is set in England but for some reason has had American antenatal care put into for no reason. Oh and despite Alex being the better human is presented as a failure who can't live without Olivia because she's a failing artist who smokes pot. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Patrick C Characters that dress like nobody ever dressed. That speak like nobody ever spoke. A posh luvvie misperception of what ordinary people are like. Badly acted like a stage school improv but surprisingly smug and pleased with itself. Hated every second Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/19/20 Full Review Audience Member I like all the actors, but would I recommend this film? Nope, it went flat for me when it ventured into DATE RAPE territory. The story arc would have worked better in the 90s, but not today. Did nobody in the production team or cast see volcanic canker sore on the face of this movie? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member I laughed out loud a number of times and then was completely sucker punched by an ending with a twist. It was messy and real, not a card-board-cut-out-that-fits-neatly- into-a-tired-genre, not many films have stayed with me like this one has. Kevin Maher Times (UK) Only a bold third act diversion into darkness saves this from being the stinker of the season. Rated: 2/5 Apr 13, 2018 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian What a treat to see Punch, so often the scene-stealer in a string of supporting roles, get to be the star for a change, in a part that emphasises her gawky, goofy persona. Rated: 3/5 Apr 12, 2018 Full Review Wendy Ide Screen International A film which is hard to dislike, but equally a struggle to care about ... Mar 2, 2018 Full Review Andrew Murray The Upcoming Although this vibrant British comedy might be tackling some new territory, it's still very much a by the numbers and painfully unfunny movie. Rated: 2/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Ross Miller The National (Scotland) A breezy, fun watch that's quick to put a smile on your face, almost at the expense of dramatic heft or realism. Rated: 3/5 Sep 8, 2018 Full Review David Aldridge Radio Times Lucy Punch and Faye Marsay play a gay couple and David Tennant their unreconstructed neighbour in this sometimes cute, sometimes crass comic trifle about pregnancy.
