Rebekka R I love the heart and passion that goes into making independent films. I recently watched You People (not to be confused with the Eddie Murphy/Jonah Hill movie of the same name) because I heard that it was written, directed, and produced by a fellow Okie. I think the other RT review was too harsh. This film is from a young and upcoming writer/director. It was his first film, and he produced it for around $40k. It won best film at the 2018 deadCenter Film Festival, and I think it would have had more festival exposure had it not been for the pandemic. As a "white girl" living in a "white girl world bubble", I gained insights and perspective from this film without feeling like I was being lectured to or shamed in some subliminal way. I understood the awkwardness of trying to be cool, using phrases you weren't comfortable with, and the universal insecurities of trying to fit in and discovering who you are. The characters brought all these awkward moments to life in an honest and relatable way. I laughed, and I laughed a lot. I cared about the characters, and honestly, I'd be up for a sequel.
