But the movie itself turns out to be a much shoddier bit of carpentry... it builds a ponderous Blumhouse haunted house-one whose "scares" are just hints of a secret the audience will figure out faster than intended.

The age gap between the leads is distracting, despite several attempts to address it. The acting was good, but the adapted screenplay wasn't. Overall a forgettable thriller/haunted house flick. Two stars is me being generous.

You Should Have Left Honestly, this one was a bit of a mixed bag for me. Think of it like a "house of horrors" version of Inception it’s super stylish and the acting is top-tier (Kevin Bacon never misses), but it definitely trips over its own metaphors by the end.It’s the perfect "light" horror vibe for a rainy Tuesday night in, but if you’re looking for a groundbreaking masterpiece that’ll keep you up at night, this house might feel a little empty.

I like this thriller. It’s a hidden gem. A gripping and dark tale that makes you think to who is the sinister. The film wasn’t trying to be scary, or twisted with a puzzling ending. It just worked with good characters.

What could've been a terrifying "House of Leaves"-like cosmic horror is instead a pretty rote and run-of-the-mill horror story. The acting is solid, especially Bacon, but David Koepp clearly can't write like he used to.
