Critics Consensus

The initial set-up is unbelievable, the plotting is predictable and stale, and the comedy depends on repetitive pratfalls that soon get old.

Tim Grierson Screen International Looking to follow the Cheaper By The Dozen formula to box office success, Yours, Mine & Ours is a tiresome kids comedy that's mostly loud and mean-spirited. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Cole Smithey Daily Radar Regardless of a distinct lack of romantic chemistry between Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo, the able-bodied actors fulfill the slapstick demands of this run-of-the-mill family comedy based on the 1968 movie with Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball. Augustine J Yeah, I really enjoyed this movie. I know that the nostalgia goggles are effecting my score a lot but frankly I think it did what a family movie is supposed to do. Is it The Godfather or The Shawshank Redemption? Hell no. However it does a really good job for the genre it is in. I don't except that much out of a family movie but this met my expectations. But in the end, I don't need to justify my opinion of a kids movie from 2005 to a bunch of people on rotten tomatoes. I like it, it's a fun movie for me. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review KB B It was a pretty good kid's movie though I've seen better. The kids will probably enjoy it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/19/23 Full Review Jacob B A ripoff of Cheaper by the Dozen but with the children being more downright sociopathic, Yours, Mine & Ours is yet another going-through-the-motions family comedy from the 2000's. True, I laughed a few times, Rene Russo certainly did a better job selling the illusion that she wanted to be there than Dennis Quaid but the film relies on uninspired comedic pratfalls, the bland direction of Raja Gosnell and I can't say I found myself rooting for their children once they conspire to break up their parents as a reverse-Parent Trap. At least it's mercifully short and feels short too, right down to the ending. A film that cemented Gosnell's reputation as a hack director only interested in family-oriented films for the easy paycheck. Could his career have turned out differently if he directed James Gunn's original, more explicitly college-student-oriented version of the live-action Scooby-Doo movie before studio interference had it retooled into a more family-friendly film after they got cold feet? Quite the "What If...?" question that crossed my mind. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/14/23 Full Review Stephen C Get this f**king s**t gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review steve d Cute enough but a bit too goofy for its own good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review alexandra b This movie is a great representation of a blended family. While frank enters his marriage with 8 children and a strict no-nonsense point of view on how his household she look like, Helen has different ideas of what a home should be. In the one part of the movie when they thought they hadn't been understanding Helen, the mother and new step-mother in this brand new marriage says "homes are not for good impressions, they are for free expression." Helen is talking about Frank's sterile and strict environment in which she disagrees both their children should grow up in. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/08/22 Full Review Read all reviews
