Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Rated: 3/5 Aug 17, 2005 Full Review Brian Mckay eFilmCritic.com as much fun as your average Zatoichi flick, with plenty of humor and sword slashing and guys standing as still as statues before falling over dead Rated: 4/5 Jan 15, 2005 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member This film was solid. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The fifth film in the series is a step up in my estimation, as it amps up the action quite a bit. Zatoichi is tasked with escorting a young woman out of an area, which naturally puts him in the middle of two rival gangs and climaxes with a battle between him and at least a couple dozen men. Solid stuff and well worth tracking down. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Zatoichi returns in a film where he's on a journey somewhere, meets someone and takes it upon himself to help them thus resulting in a different journey, then it all comes back around to his original journey... and this journey is "on the road". In fact, I think most Zatoichi movies could have the title On the Road cause that's usually where we find the title character but in this films he's not only a good swordsman, he's honourable, smart, cunning, devious, and true to his word. This is the kind of honourable samurai movie you might expect from a Zatoichi film. While I don't exactly find his fighting skills all that great... considering he's blind, it's a clear indication that nobody else has much skill. This makes Zatoichi seem like something out of this world almost. He is possibly one of the first Japanese superheroes. Worth checking out and a must watch for fans of samurai films and Zatoichi in general. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member This Zatoichi film features the classic line: Darkness is my ally. Other than that, its simply an average outing for the blind swordsman. Zatoichi is attacked mid-transit while seeking employment, and finds himself be bodyguard to an woman who was raped by her lord. Criminal gangs are after her and him for various reasons, and it ends in a rather generic battle. Despite the solid opening and chemistry with the female, this Zatoichi outing is rather pedestrian. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Another excellent entry to the fine samurai series. Zatoichi finds a dying man who begs him to escort the maiden Omitsu home, but she is wanted by two warring gangs for mysterious reasons. There are plenty of both wonderful fighting and emotional scenes--which separates this fine series from many of its competitors. Highly recommended. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Zatoichi's always on the road, though. Never at home. Zatoichi at home would be a change of pace.
