Critics Consensus

Zero Charisma takes a refreshingly empathetic -- and often quite funny -- look at characters historically marginalized as one-dimensional archetypes.

Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times By failing to push their galumphing antihero toward the self-knowledge he so desperately needs, [the directors] rob the film of its emotional stakes. Dowd AV Club A barbed indie character study that seems perched, like Big Fan, between dark humor and probing psychodrama. Feb 24, 2021 Full Review Aaron Peterson The Hollywood Outsider Zero Charisma is one of those small gems that comes around every so often, a film you would probably be unaware of, were it not for strong word-of-mouth. Audience Member The movie is pitch perfect I know guys like Erik and I know guys like miles, the actors nailed it making it hysterical and identifiably awkward and sad at times. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/28/20 Full Review Audience Member Zero Charisma isn't for everyone. The movie expects a familiarity with Dungeons & Dragon style tabletop RPGs and the gamer culture. If you're completely unfamiliar with either, avoid this film. The story follows a snarky, anti-social Dungeon Master named Scott who unwittingly welcomes a charismatic hipster into his players circle who shakes up the world he once controlled. Actually, my description oversells the movie just a bit. The movie is fairly dull and most of the jokes are dead on delivery. The film seems lost on its own point, and in the end, it fails to have any point at all. Avoid this one if you can. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Not the unrealistic glamorous portrayal of D&D you usually see, this is an extremely realistic and painful depiction of how the game really is, for better or worse. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Not great, but better than I expected. Somewhat funny and disturbing. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member excellent ''Geeksploitation'' ! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member King of the geeks, this is a movie about a guy who is exactly what you would expect from a super mega geek. He is the game master of a D&D style type game, with wizards and trolls and such, which basically means he comes up with the quest type missions things that they go on. His world completely falls apart when a new player comes into his game and is too cool, cause he is a geek with a girlfriend and he has a successful website, and the he does things like throwing a sword at his characters head cause he was bored. After that it is a journey in to the geek version of heart of darkness. Apocalypse now for geeks. It has decent acting for what it is trying to do, but is a little hard to watch in parts due to some very uncomfortable situations. 2 Beards Out Of 5 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
