      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Factors beyond Gibney's control prevent Zero Days from offering a comprehensive look at its subject, but the partial picture that emerges remains as frightening as it is impossible to ignore.

Georgan G The topic is horrifying. The idea that cyber weapons can shut down the world is initially hard to understand, but the plot clarifies it perfectly. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/04/24 Full Review Alexandre V Um dos melhores documentários que já assisti sobre o tema. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Modern documentaries are a puzzle to me. While I might believe their premise, I am also a bit leery of them simply being slickly produced propaganda pieces. I often tell my clients about bogus "Virus warning" scams they might come across on the Internet - the more flamboyant and over-the-top these messages are, the more likely they are to be utterly bogus. Zero Days hones in on a topic I have heard about in the past. From Titan Rain to Stuxnet, news of deeply "State Sponsored" cyber attacks involing governments against other governments. World War III is being fought now, but without bombs and guns and soldiers (unless you live in a backwards, savage-like semi-state like Russia). Zero Days is a bit too slick, a bit too "on the nose". Too much slick, ominous music, fancy graphics, unknown "deep state" anonymous intelligence agents talking juuuust "street" enough to try to convince you that they are for real. From the foul-mouthed "hot blonde" acting through her all-too familiar role of the raw, unfiltered embedded foot-soldier to the puppet-like bearucrats blatantly avoiding answering any direct questions. All this slick Hollywood reliance on tired old tropes makes me doubt almost anything and everything it brings up, no matter how plausible it might actually be in reality. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member An incredibly obtuse and complicated matter explained in an accessible and entertaining way. My only wish is that we could all know more about everything that's behind this! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review kevin c Documentary by acclaimed filmmaker Alex Gibney about the US-Israeli joint effort to thwart Iran' nuclear progress by launching an undetectable cyberattack....until it was detected. Very interesting documentary on the cyberattack known as Stuxnet, which was something I was unaware that ever happened. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member very informative and well done documentary on cybersecurity and the biggest/most dangerous hack done so far. Kristen Lopez Spectrum Culture It's remarkable how Gibney packs complex, jargon-heavy ideas into a neat package. Rated: 3/5 Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Be very afraid. Rated: 3/5 Jan 8, 2017 Full Review Kate Muir Times (UK) This documentary might be better titled Day Zero, because it features a doomsday scenario in which cyberwarfare shuts down the electricity grids and other networks of entire countries, using computer malware. Rated: 3/5 Jan 5, 2017 Full Review Jordan Brooks Vague Visages A shocking look at the future of international warfare, Zero Days is at its best when embroiled in computing language and incident breakdowns, and at its worst almost never. Aug 1, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Gibney effectively sketches out a very real danger floating in the ether of cyberspace and global politics, and he calls for an open discussion before the world's powers consider using their cyber-arsenal, or worse, the lights go out. Rated: 3.5/4 Apr 11, 2022 Full Review Michael J. Casey Michael J. Cinema Gibney picks at the Stuxnet wound until it bleeds all over him and then blames the blood for being red.
