Tomasz B @T0mmyB May 13 Black Bolsheviks hahaha ...who casted this cast? But the lead was played MARVELOUSLY. LOL Black Bolszeviks See more a P @Ammurca Apr 25 A total delight of a series. Fantastic acting, settings and plotline. I didn't feel like it dragged on just to make more episodes--unlike most serials these days. To the people furious about the "open casting": there were black people and other "minorities" in the Soviet Union (in fact, many flocked there to escape racial persecution in capitalist lands, including the US) -- they've just been written out of history. Besides, why stop at only "historically-accurate" casting as among white people? A Scotsman as the lead character in revolutionary Russia? Ridiculous! Ah, but I guess you're fine with that. Wonder why.... See more tgribs B @Yogurtmitts Jan 30 Ewan McGregor is great, like in everything he does, but the casting is abysmal. A black guy with dreadlocks in revolutionary Russia? Come on. I lasted 3 episodes and then walked away. McGregor nailed his role but the poor casting in the name of diversity and inclusion ruined any semblance of immersion or effective story telling. Avoid it unless you don't care about any shred of historical accuracy. See more William J @William4551 Jan 23 What could have been a great series was ruined by open casting that was so out of character and time that you couldn't concentrate on the story. An African with dreadlocks is not going to be the poet laureate of pre-revolution Russia no matter how much you want to suspend belief. Ditto jarring later characters. Quit drinking the kool-aid. See more Trevor T @RT25791882 Dec 25 Tedious and very badly cast. It's supposed to be early Communist Russia not New Orleans. See more Allan N. @Allanoo121 Sep 17 A magnificent mini series. Deeply touching, emotionally resonant, funny and sad. With remarkable attention to every detail, and brilliant performances by Ewan MacGregor and a perfect supporting cast. See more Read all reviews
