The search is on to find the country's best singers and dancers ages 6-13 who will ultimately make up a five-member group. Thousands of kids, along with their fanatical parents, weather wind, rain and impending tornadoes for a chance at stardom. Stage moms and dads at their "best" encourage, critique and console their talented offspring. Talent searches take place in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Chattanooga, Tenn. During the auditions, producers evaluate each contestant's singing and dancing abilities, and whittle down the group of thousands to 20 semifinalists, 10 from the 6-9 age group and 10 from the 10-13 age group. At that point America takes over and votes in 10 finalists from this group of 20, five from each age group.
