After a whirlwind courtship, bartender and single mom Roxy marries Army Pfc. Trevor LeBlanc and moves with him and her two children to an Army base in Charleston, S.C. There, she soon becomes close friends with other wives on the base, including Denise Sherwood, whose son, Jeremy, temporarily abused her after the deployment of her husband, Maj. Frank Sherwood, until Jeremy joined the service himself; and psychiatrist Roland Burton, a male "Army wife" trying to help his spouse, Lt. Col. Joan Burton, who is struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder. When the "army wives" prepare to leave the base after it is decommissioned, they must adjust to the idea of moving away from their close-knit group of friends.

Charlie McCollum San Jose Mercury News While lacking the satirical humor of [Desperate] Housewives and the edge of [The] Unit, the show is serviceable in its storytelling, quite well-done in its production and better than well-done in its acting. Oct 21, 2019 Full Review Barry Garron The Hollywood Reporter The show succeeds on a number of levels and builds on a well-crafted premise pilot. Oct 18, 2019 Full Review Brian Lowry Variety At a certain point, the soapy qualities could kick in and bring these characters to life, but as it stands, Army Wives feels as empty as expressing "Support the troops" sentiments on a bumper sticker. Oct 18, 2019 Full Review Boston Herald Staff Boston Herald The producers of Army Wives seem determined to deliver a conscientious depiction of life for military families. They need to remember they aren't making a documentary. Rated: B- Oct 18, 2019 Full Review Scott D. Pierce Deseret News (Salt Lake City) There's absolutely nothing wrong with a good soap opera. It's just that Army Wives doesn't start out as a particularly good soap opera. Oct 18, 2019 Full Review Will Harris Bullz-Eye.com What begins as a guilty pleasure becomes a legitimately enthralling series by the end of its fourth episode. Louise C A good start to a promising series. I enjoyed bingeing on this first season. All the characters were given some screen time each episode, with the usual mix including a villain or two. This was an eye-opening view of army life in the US. If factual, I see how difficult their lives would be, Roxy is my favourite character. She is charismatic and a good choice for a main role. Nothing negative to say about this season. It was really enjoyable. I watched this on Disney+ in New Zealand. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
