When the Midwesterner reluctantly travels to Los Angeles to execute a hit on an actor who is bedding a mobster's wife, little does Barry know that the City of Angels may be his sanctuary. He follows his target into acting class and ends up instantly drawn to the community of eager hopefuls, especially dedicated student Sally, who becomes the object of his affection. While Barry wants to start a new life as an actor, his handler, Fuches, has other ideas, and the hit man's criminal past won't let him walk away so easily. What to Know

      Critics Consensus

What began as a macabre comedy is now close to completely shorn of genuine mirth, but Bill Hader's masterful indictment of stardom closes the curtain with one hell of an encore.

matthias s "Barry's final season delivers a thrilling ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish! As a longtime fan, I was delighted by the bold move to jump into the future, adding a fresh twist to the series. Watching our favorite hitman navigate this new landscape was both exhilarating and unpredictable. The ending left me completely satisfied, tying up loose ends while still leaving room for interpretation. It's rare to find a finale that strikes the perfect balance between closure and intrigue, but Barry nailed it. While some may argue it's not a masterpiece, I beg to differ. The meticulous attention to detail, stellar performances, and intricate storytelling make this season a standout in its own right. Every scene is crafted with precision, keeping viewers engaged and invested in the characters' fates. Overall, Barry's final season is a must-watch for any fan of dark comedy and gripping drama. It may not be flawless, but its undeniable quality and entertainment value make it a standout addition to the series. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!" Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review John R C While the comedy falls off on season 4 the story delivers and the ending is pitch perfect. Just a perfect show with a well deserved pay off. Ignore the poor reviews here, they are delusional. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review AM J A shockingly awful ending to what was otherwise an incredible show. 3 perfect seasons totally ruined by a lazy writing choice to leap ahead 10 years, leaving the audience frustrated & baffled by this new stupid plotline. I was honestly angry about it & walked away without watching the rest of the season. Can no one in Hollywood write an ending anymore?! I'm so burnt out on terrible, nonsensical final seasons to great shows. It's all we ever get anymore. It's enough to make you quit watching television altogether. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/30/24 Full Review Chavel D Hollywood, STOP with the self-indulgence. Cause we all want to know what the life of a struggling actor in Hollywood is like. I can hear the show creators at the round table thinking this show up; Okay, what if we have a struggling actor, but not just a run of the mill struggling actor, a Hitman, who discovers acting, takes actings lessons, while still doing hit jobs and his other organized crime stuff? Like a Soprano's meets a struggling waiter/actor. I mean everyone liked the Soprano's right? Great idea, High fives all around.... Was done with this show after the 1st season... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review jeanieforever Yikes. I mean, wtf? Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/05/23 Full Review Mortal Is it a drama is it a comedy or actions no one knows. Plot is so twisted that it becomes boring and also, WHAT IS UP WITH THE FING flashbackas!! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Judy Berman TIME Magazine Hader, now a full-fledged auteur who directed every episode of this final arc, stuck the landing; Barry has earned a place of honor in the antihero (or anti-antihero?) canon. Jun 7, 2023 Full Review Inkoo Kang New Yorker The final season of Bill Hader’s HBO series was the most ambitious. Jun 2, 2023 Full Review Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe The more anarchic the plotting and character behavior became, the more frustrated I felt trying to give all the shooting and lying and criminal activity some meaning beyond the plot gyrations. Jun 1, 2023 Full Review Donal Lynch Sunday Independent (Ireland) This dark and very funny show about an assassin who wants to be an actor seemed to sail under the radar over here but it’s only improved as its gone on and the new season is excellent. Jan 29, 2024 Full Review Nuha Hassan Off Colour This season is by far Hader’s best contribution to the series. From the direction, writing, and performance, Hader brings the miserable, angry, and tormented hitman-turned-actor to the screen for the very last time, with humour and darkness... Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Melody McCune Geek Girl Authority Here’s to you, Barry, a series that took us for a wild ride over four heart-pounding seasons. This show’s trajectory is something I never could have predicted. Aug 23, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
