Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Featuring new interviews with Rose, who at 83 remains as obstinate and difficult as ever but also shows flashes of his famous humor and charm, as well as insights from former teammates... Rated: 3/4 Jul 25, 2024 Full Review Daniel Fienberg Hollywood Reporter The show is as close as you’ll get to spending four hours in Pete Rose’s head. If that doesn’t sound like fun, don’t expect Pete Rose to change his story or his way of telling it for your sake. Jul 24, 2024 Full Review John Anderson Wall Street Journal Much of what makes “Charlie Hustle & the Matter of Pete Rose” so compelling might be chalked up to the viewer’s suspension of belief: There is no reason to buy anything Mr. Rose says, other than that he was one of the best baseball players of all time. Jul 24, 2024 Full Review Mike Scott Times-Picayune A compelling, warts-and-all look at a talented and charismatic self-saboteur who lacks the self-awareness and the self-control to get out of his own way. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 14, 2024 Full Review Loren King Newport This Week (RI) It’s sad to see the aging Rose yukking it up at autograph shows or signing baseballs by the hundreds at the Hall of Fame in the shadow of heralded players with equal or lesser stats. But character matters. Charlie Hustle shows that Rose is who he is. Aug 6, 2024 Full Review Patrick McDonald HollywoodChicago.com Remarkable because it proves that Pete Rose is both a major league legend and a-hole. The story of Rose is one of grand/bizarre opera, with triumphs and tragic downfall aplenty, still waiting for the fat lady to sing. Kudos to Dir. Mark Monroe & his team. William K It was good to see some of the truths finally come out and the parts with Tommy Gioisa are classic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/27/24 Full Review Michael W This sports docuseries was very good. Pete Rose and the entire crew did a spectacular job on making this docuseries. It's a story of the rise and fall of Pete Rose and his fight to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. In my opinion, he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame because he was a phenomenal athlete and a determined person that fought for what he wanted in life. Even though, he was a gambler and bet on the game of baseball and on his team, he deserves to be inducted for his accomplishments and his commitment to the game. People make mistakes all the time and the people that are criticizing him and preventing him from induction are just being pathetic people holding a grudge on Mr. Rose for what he did when worse things have happened in the game of baseball and they're not getting severely punished like he did. This is injustice and everyone knows it. If you haven't seen this docuseries yet, check it out sometime. It's a definite must see. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/15/24 Full Review Sal D Compelling documentary with a balanced perspective into the character named Charlie Hustle and his alter ego Pete Rose. Truly an enigma, before, during and after watching the four part series and yet I feel like I understand him better. Rule 21 is a rule…he knew it, knows it, and yet cannot find a pathway to contrition because of continuing to execute self inflicted wounds - likely finding its roots on the same gritty, self determination that made him a truly one of the greats in baseball - sorry, he’s not in my top 5 but that’s my personal bias. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review Dave K Really? Who wants to spend 4 hours listening to this self-righteous asshole talk? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/31/24 Full Review Michael P It was great. I loved it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/29/24 Full Review TJ G Phenomenal and balanced doc that shows the greatness and the fall of Pete through his eyes and those close. Top notch sports documentary and hits all of the important points along the way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews
