Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “Clean Slate” offers hope through a relatable story where a father and a daughter get to know and accept and understand each other better than they thought they ever could. Rated: 3/4 Feb 14, 2025 Full Review Natalie Autostraddle It eschews the dramatic and rests almost entirely on the comedic. It bypasses chances to deepen our understanding of the characters and their circumstances. Feb 13, 2025 Full Review Kristy Puchko Mashable Norman Lear and Laverne Cox team up for a fresh twist on a classic sitcom formula. Feb 11, 2025 Full Review Steve Murray ArtsATL For all its limitations, Clean Slate is the sort of show we need, now more than ever. Mar 8, 2025 Full Review Weiting Liu Common Sense Media It expands the scope of modern Southern experience—a Black trans woman at the center, a diverse supporting cast, and lively elder characters. Mar 6, 2025 Full Review Alex Valencia Q+ Magazine The show’s emotional depth and comedic brilliance rest on the shoulders of a stellar cast, with Laverne Cox and George Wallace leading the charge. Esra Y Sweet, feel-good sitcom with lots of heartwarming moments. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/16/25 Full Review Peter G That Norman Lear...we should have cloned him. Bringing people together with love. What a legacy! And we all need more George Wallace in our lives. Great cast. So nice to feel good at the end of a show -- mighty rare these days. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/14/25 Full Review Scandala N The show tries hard to be funny, but it fails. Laverne's real-life story would probably make a better and much more entertaining show than this garbage. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review Angela R The story is endearing, enlightening and often funny, but i was disappointed at the end of season one. I feel she was just cruel to the man who asked her out, implying that he wasn’t good enough. There was no need for that. The writers could have used these moments to have her talk about how she’s been burned in previous relationships or treated by heterosexual men in the past. It feels like someone wanted to wrap the season up quickly, without putting in the work. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/24/25 Full Review BeautyCosmetic O Boring and so cringy it's hard to watch Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/25 Full Review Gerry W From the first episode's breezy opening moments of friendly and kidding banter between a car wash owner and his fellow small town neighbors as he calls out to them on a drive through town, this series never lets up on charm, warm laughs, and moments of inspiration. The cast is perfect, every role, and you can feel the classic, loving, Norman Lear spirit in every scene. I hope for many, many more seasons to come, as there are already so many terrific characters to get to know as Laverne Cox's character reacquaints herself with a town she has come home to after decades away, to confront it with a new understanding of herself, her father, and the people she grew up with.
