From its inception, Happy Valley stood out in the crowded crime drama field, and in its third season it reaches a pinnacle few programs manage. Its triumph is keeping a multi-stranded narrative grounded in a reality that never feels less than credible. Go to Full Review

Even if Emmy stupidly refuses to cover this brilliant British crime drama in awards glory, don’t miss the final chapter in this groundbreaking series and Sarah Lancashire, the Category 5 hurricane of an actress who gives a performance for the ages. Go to Full Review

With Happy Valley, we also got Catherine: fearless, moody, perceptive, abrasive, indispensable. The show makes no apologies for her... She’s flawed, and she’s riveting. One last outing with her is a gift. Go to Full Review

The off-screen dedication to its cast is matched by the on-screen power of a mother and a grandmother trying to do right by her family, her city, and herself. No wonder things boil over. (I mean, it’s also the final season.) Go to Full Review

The season goes for the dramatic jugular, and if it doesn’t quite tie its subplots together as satisfyingly... that’s balanced by the Shakespearean dimensions of the storyline that brings Cawood, her family, and Royce together one last time. Go to Full Review

It’s the kind of show where you could half-watch in the background and follow a tense and intriguing plot -- but you’d be missing the heart of the show, its tics and hesitations, its real unspoken tenacity. Go to Full Review

Temujain J 07/03/2024 Season One was a masterpiece, Season Two was a very good one, not as good as One but still very good. Season Three was totally unnecessary, bad plot, still top notch acting, but not convincing in any moment. See more Michael T 05/12/2024 Epic final season, loved the fact that they waited a few years to film it so they wouldn't have to change actors. I genuinely avoided Happy Valley for an age, and then after watching another programme Happy Valley auto started on the app so I thought sod it I'll give it 20 minutes, by the end of 10 I was hooked See more Jorn L 03/04/2024 Absolutely amazing all over. The writing, the acting. sublime. See more Nigel F 02/04/2024 You'd think a few years away that there may be a dip in quality - thankfully not. They needed to revisit this, I would have preferred a better final showdown, but this was still excellent See more Barbara F 12/24/2023 OMG! I often lose patience with series after the 1st or 2nd episode and then skip to the end, but every episode and every scene holds important information that drives the story forward. I couldn't help but watch it all...the series was wonderful! And James Norton, former vicar of Grandchester, did a superlative job of portraying a truly creepy villain. See more Ross M 11/24/2023 Absolutely one of the best series I've ever seen. Fantastic story line, acting and premise. Sarah Lancashire is outstanding throughout! See more Read all reviews
