At fictional Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey, prickly genius Dr. Gregory House tackles health mysteries as would a medical Sherlock Holmes, all the while playing mind games with colleagues that include his best friend, oncologist James Wilson. House, an acerbic infectious disease specialist, solves medical puzzles with the help of a team of young diagnosticians. Flawless instincts and unconventional thinking help earn House great respect, despite his brutal honesty and antisocial tendencies.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Hugh Laurie's sterling performance brings a vivacity to the curmudgeonly Dr. House, effortlessly carrying a series that is rich in style, but stubbornly stuck in formula from the outset.

Mark M Hard to like or accept Dr House. He is unpleasant and deeply arrogant. Even if he is good as an investigator he is vile. Awful American accent, doesnt sound genuine. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/04/25 Full Review Cork B Really strong writing and Hugh Laurie is hilarious - I had forgotten he used to be in Black Adder, where I didn't think he was that memorable. The show is formulaic, and the first season is a bit rough establishing personalities, but once it hits its stride, it is an entertaining ride. I liked the earlier seasons vs the later, more 'story arc' seasons. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review Obi-wan K Huh Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/19/25 Full Review Frans B Great show in just about every way. Quirky and intelligent, off - beat and entertaining, funny as hell and serious like a heart attack. Like a box of all sorts.
