The writing is amazing, I love the colorful cast, the voice acting is top tier. The art style is awesome. I love the older style cartoon feel blended with hip hop music and art style. Fun, funny, emotional-all the feels. I never know what will happen next yet I'm satisfied with how it moves the flow makes sense and yet somehow not predictable. The characters and setting are cemented really well you feel like they are real people. If you love arcane, and blue eye samurai, you'll like this!

Another series that I had on hold for a while and finally gave this a watch. Reason being that it reminds me much of other shows that I've seen back then like Jackie Chan Adventures and The Life and Times of Juniper Lee when it comes to fighting the supernatural. This is certainly a great series that this new generation of young'uns would definitely get a kick out of and think back that this was one of their best TV shows growing up. For me, I had a great time with this one. There were a few nitpicks, but that doesn't drag the show down.
The story centers around Jentry Chau living in Sheoul, celebrating her sixteenth birthday with her friends, until a jiangshi named Ed attacks her. Thankfully, her great-aunt, Gugu, intervenes and pacifies the jiangshi with a talisman while convincing her niece to move back into her hometown of Riverfork, Texas. Gugu warns Jentry about a mogui named Mr. Cheng who is looking for her for a goal of his own. Down the road, Gugu suggests to train Jentry to master her fiery powers as they had reawakened during the night of her birthday.
Down the road, Jentry goes back to school while trying to hide her powers since she was involved in a couple of incidents when she'd almost burned the town down. She makes some friends as well as enemies as they come from the underworld and ghosts that pop up out of nowhere wherever she's goes. Ed accompanies her. Jentry soon meets up as well as having a crush on her childhood friend named Michael. Then a new kid comes into town who is actually a painted skin demon in disguise named Kit, who was also falling in love with Jentry the more they hang out. Troubles arise until Jentry finds a way to fend them off. Secrets reveal that I don't want to spoil. Confessions were said. They go all over the place from Texas to Bixi to the underworld to even the past with the help of magic.
One of the highlights I have to give this show is the action and the culture that surrounds the series. You don't get to see much Chinese folklore and its magic that looks amazing. The designs of the monsters, whether good or evil, are creative that you'd see it out of Chinese folklore books or anywhere else that has Chinese related concepts. The animation quality used for them all works fluidly that it's pretty much pitch perfect for how it eb and flows whether it brings in the action or the drama. The reveal of Jentry's powers and her family secrets were interesting to invest in that you'd want to know more. I will admit some people have come and gone as it goes since it feels like they would've been around more. Solar Tang, for example, seemed like she could be around for a little long like Michael and Kit were.
I love the characters as they are likable. Although, I confess that Ed grew on me after a few episodes, which he has gotten better the more he hangs out and helps Jentry and Gugu. I love seeing the chemistry with Jentry when it comes to having a crush towards Michael as well as seeing Kit having a crush towards her as this love triangle goes. Was sad when one of them had got axed. That principle does get on my nerves once in a while. The humor from them does give me some good laughs.
The voice cast being involved and delivering their moments were great, too. Ali Wong as the eccentric and determined yet fragile at times Jentry. Lori Tan Chinn as the wise and concerning great-aunt as she trains her niece. Bowen Yang as a caring jiangshi while cracking jokes. As well as being helpful in any shape and form. AJ Beckles as the love interest, Michael, who does help her out before he was given a bigger role. Woosung Kim as the painted skin demon who was given an assignment before he started to care for Jentry more. Greg Chun as Mr. Cheng, possessed by the mogui, voiced by Kenton Chen, who has a goal of his own as he targets Jentry for it. Then you have others like Sean Allan Krill, Lucy Liu, Jimmy O. Yang, Suzie Yeung, Kaiji Tang, and Stephen Fu voicing throughout the series. Giving their all in both action and drama.
With the world building and the character chemistry along with the action to fight off Chinese demons, this was worth watching. I'm glad that this generation gets to enjoy their own childhood so they would look back on what their memories were like as they grow old. On my end, this was a fun watch despite some minor hiccups. It was near perfect yet amazing for what's fresh and new. With that, I'm gonna give this nine Jentry getting fired up out of ten. 9/10.

MY FAVORITE SERIES OF 2024 (also among those of my entire life) this series is a love letter to animation, it has excellent animation, an incredible soundtrack, a great story and all the characters are great, the people who give bad reviews to this series is because they really don't know anything about animation and I hope Netflix doesn't cancel it because if not for me Netflix no longer exists, I don't praise it more because otherwise it wouldn't end today, THANK YOU ECHO WU AND THE ENTIRE PRODUCTION TEAM AND ALSO THANK YOU TITMOUSE AND NETFLIX FOR BRINGING THIS BEAUTY TO MY LIFE

From the beginning I thought I was going to give this series a try, The animation, the story, the designs, the effects, the editing and the soundtrack are wonderful and the characters seem good and well constructed in general and Believe me or not I need another season to give us more drama and romance that they can give us 👌💎

Wow... just wow. Absolutely stunning. Jentry Chau is a wonderful addition to the animation landscape. What I love about it is that even with its younger demographic, the show does not baby its audience as it deals with so many heavy issues, and surprising horror elements. Yes, the action and romance is fun; but the heart of Jentry Chau lies beneath its three-dimensional characters, and the lessons they learn. Not to mention the amazing animation. If you like other heavy lore animated shows (like Gravity Falls, SvtFoE, Amphibia, to name a few), you will have a great time.
