How does the epitome of subcultural cool evolve into a four-day, money-printing monolith whose loudest champions are Chicago mayors? Lolla doesn't answer that question. Go to Full Review

As a cultural event, the series is full of praise for the tour’s impact, although there’s a lack of nuance in capturing how corporate concerns took over. Us versus them is a simplistic framing. Go to Full Review

The docuseries sometimes comes across as an extended infomercial for Lolla. Still, it doesn’t shy away from chronicling the ups and downs of the festival, from its early days as an anti-establishment, activist, alt-rock tour... Go to Full Review
Megan Andersen Common Sense Media 09/11/2024
The musicians interviewed are still passionate about their craft and take thoughtful looks back at the exciting origins of the musical phenomenon that still exists in 2024. Go to Full Review

“Lolla: The Story Of Lollapalooza” is a terrifically watchable snapshot of an unpredictable, combustible, vibrant, and once-in-a-lifetime period in music culture we may never see repeated again. Go to Full Review

... Includes some cool live footage and lots of time capsule MTV stuff. And sure, Lolla: The Story of Lollapalooza explores the nuts and bolts of the festival’s thirty-year history, too, if that’s something you’re interested in. Go to Full Review

Luis M Mar 1 Last year was my first time at Lollapallooza so I wanted to know more about its history, I find this doc very interesting but.... I don't know WHY it was made all about Perry Farnell, someone who's only contributions is to be the singer of a forgotten band and who succeeded (by accident) in the first festival, but he actually thinks he is something of a "Rock Jesuschrist" when in reality, the festival DID DIED during his ownership and was only resuscitated and make the success there is today thanks to an external company that managed many other music festivals.... still... great documentary! Entertaining and super nostalgic for those of us old enough to remember the early 90s. If you're interested in this doc, you will enjoy it. See more Read all reviews
