May 09, 2023It was a new perspective of the history based on the new discoveries about King Louis XVI probably being in the Authism spectrum . And Marie-Antoinette was so young when she got married . I thought it was really well made .

Apr 25, 2023Love this take on real historical characters, makes you really see from her perspective the challenges, obstacles and emotions the real Marie Antoinette may have experienced. It's fun but also gives you enough of taste of history to have you searching through real people's bio after each episode for more understanding of their role during such an epic time.

Apr 24, 2023The reason it took 7 years for them to consumate the marriage was not because Louis didn't know how to do it, he physically COULDN'T do it until he had surgery.

Apr 14, 2023This show is a delight. Not to be taken too seriously, it exists between a laugh & a tear. The acting is solid, like watching a junior varsity team having an exceptional season, Gaia Weiss as DuBarry is a Hot Mess and Roxane Duran holds her own as Josephine putting up with Louis' abusive brother. Probably won't sweep awards shows, but it's a worthwhile lighthearted romp.

Mar 31, 2023Sets, costumes and cinematography are excellent. Casting and acting also excellent. Dialogue slightly off putting for inconsistency in tone from modern slang to slightly more formal language and bawdy (which is appropriate) to prissy and prim are also an annoying inconsistency. Overlook that and enjoy the story and hope it inspires you to learn more about the historical figures and the era in which they lived. To the critics that called Marie spoiled, bratty etc. THIS WAS A CHILD! What was done to her was child abuse so that she became overwhelmed with her power as queen, wealth, privilege, she was a victim of circumstance and without a strong, loving mentor. Well worth the watch.

Mar 25, 2023This show is incredible, I'm really not sure why the critics didn't give it good reviews. Probably because they didn't infuse it with modern day values, rather, they kept it as an accurate period piece. I much prefer it this way, how it actually was.

Mar 23, 2023Once I watched the first episode I discovered why the French are REALLY protesting in the streets.

Mar 23, 2023Very well casted. I especially appreciate the the main leads. Cunningham grows on you, at the same time that he grows on his wife. The actors who play Louis XV and Joseph, Emperor of Austria, are also quite good. I HATED The Favourite, but this isn't nearly as nasty. The costumes and setting is wonderful. The only thing preventing me from giving it five stars is that maybe I'm a little bored with the topic, as there have been so many books and films about this queen. Much better than the Coppola film.

Jan 25, 2023Really unconvincing, couldn't watch all episodes, had to abandon it. Was more like a spoof or parody in places.
