Carol Midgley Times (UK) While the drama will inevitably be picked apart by experts over cultural missteps and inaccuracies, and seems to prize style over content, I like its fresh energy. Rated: 3/5 Mar 27, 2023 Full Review John Anderson Wall Street Journal For all the dithering, Marie Antoinette has some very solid performances, notably by Mr. Purefoy Mar 16, 2023 Full Review Dan Einav Financial Times So while the show may take some creative licence and imaginative leaps, it does so in the hope of reclaiming her humanity and giving texture and agency to a woman who was not only a notorious materialist, but was treated as a commodity herself. Rated: 3/5 Jan 3, 2023 Full Review Matt Roush TV Insider ...once they’re out of the picture, and the bratty new Queen turns her Petit Trianon chateau into a party palace, it’s hard to muster much sympathy for these spoiled royals and their reprehensible foes... Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 25, 2023 Full Review Joel Keller Decider There certainly is an effort on Davis’ and her writing team’s part to make Antoinette’s story sexy, which is why we see scenes where du Barry and Louis XV are in seduction mode... Mar 22, 2023 Full Review Arezou Amin Collider Marie Antoinette genuinely tries to put a new spin on the life of the famous French Queen, but... the series winds up speaking far too much and saying very little. Jan K This is where I escape to when it all gets too much. I love the show's rich sumptuosity and Emilia Schüle and the rest of the cast are really very good. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/15/23 Full Review Andy L Honestly, I think the show is worth watching for a different spin on the story of Marie Antoinette… but there is a tremendous amount of detail known today about her life and the show alters history a bit too much and I'm not sure why. I don't think the truth takes away from a more feminist perspective. The truth has no agenda, but I guess producers do. I hate the hair… a little too creative in my opinion here. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/31/23 Full Review Jonathan M ALL TIME CLASSIC ALLWAYS Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/01/23 Full Review Real S It was a new perspective of the history based on the new discoveries about King Louis XVI probably being in the Authism spectrum . And Marie-Antoinette was so young when she got married . I thought it was really well made . Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/09/23 Full Review Paula A Love this take on real historical characters, makes you really see from her perspective the challenges, obstacles and emotions the real Marie Antoinette may have experienced. It's fun but also gives you enough of taste of history to have you searching through real people's bio after each episode for more understanding of their role during such an epic time. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/25/23 Full Review Caity S F M The reason it took 7 years for them to consumate the marriage was not because Louis didn't know how to do it, he physically COULDN'T do it until he had surgery.
