A crime drama about an important contemporary issue, America's prison system, "Mayor of Kingstown" follows the McLusky family in Kingstown, Mich., where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry; the family of power brokers between police, criminals, inmates, prison guards and politicians tackle themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality; the crime thriller series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.

Anita Singh Daily Telegraph (UK) The performances are decent – particularly Taylor Handley as Mike’s police officer brother – and the plotting is assured. But it is undone by the violence for violence’s sake. Rated: 2/5 Jan 18, 2023 Full Review Manuel Betancourt AV Club Show and character alike seem instead to find more narrative interest in (re)establishing well-worn plots about feuding gangs and violent power grabs. It may be gripping but it’s uninspired, both as television and as meditation on law and order in 2023. Rated: C+ Jan 14, 2023 Full Review James Croot The Post NZ Likely to be a little too gloomy for the Yellowstone crowd and not quite weighty enough for avid crime drama aficionados, Mayor of Kingstown is nonetheless well worth seeking out. Jan 20, 2023 Full Review Rodrigo Perez The Playlist Is this system, like this show, sustainable? That’s unclear, and some gazing beyond the navel would be healthy for it. Rated: B- Jan 20, 2023 Full Review Johnny Loftus Decider Mayor of Kingstown... seems to be doubling down on its sour times in season two. It’s to our benefit that the acting is so terrific, since otherwise Kingstown puts viewers on a collision course to bad mood city. Jan 18, 2023 Full Review Andrew Murray The Upcoming Overly melodramatic and shallow in its content, there’s currently no reason to recommend tuning in to Mike McClusky’s latest small-screen outing. Phillip D Antoine Fuqua seemed to be less involved after the first couple of episodes. I believe I read that he was inking an exclusive platform wide deal at the time, rather than by show. Perhaps his touch wasn’t on each episode to the same degree as season 1. Still a great show. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/11/25 Full Review Heather D Gets better ever season Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review Bob D Great show...critics are morons. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/02/24 Full Review Regal R 67/100 - UGHHHH, I wanted this show to be good. it isnt. s2 is a letdown. was not better than s1 and as much as i hoped they would finally start getting to the juicy storyline they literally waste 2 entire seasons on garbage that has 0 value, does not drive the plot in any way, and its just annoying. this show is annoying. it has sloppy writing, continuity errors, and its just so bad. they have an amazing antagonist (milo) and give him 5 minutes total of screentime while trying to convince the audience that he's this genius untouchable criminal, but they never let his character shine. the actor is amazing and this show would actually have been good if they developed that storyline instead of no storyline at all. the show is a chore to watch because its tiresome seeing the same problem happen over and over and over. they wrote the same episode 20 times, made slight changes, and hoped the audience wouldnt notice. what lazy writing. where is milos character devlopment or backstory??? where is he and mikes relationship??? why didnt they show it within the first 2 seasons???? it makes 0 sense, its terrible writing and even if milo is the antagonist in season 3 its probably going to be the same garbage, 10 episodes of nothing leading up to the most anticlimactic ending ever. whats the point of the show if not for that storyline? the entire premise of the show focuses on this and yet its the least developed and terribly written. malding at this show. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review Audience Member Bunny is still my favorite character by far. Episode 2 was going so good until she went back to Milo. Like wtf? She likes to be sexually assaulted and trafficked? OK so what she has nowhere to go, she could have just gone back to Mike instead of Milo. That part does not make sense. The script is not as good as season 1... Like when Kyle asked Mike why can't he just let Milo go, Mike doesn't explain that Milo is a psychopath human sex slave trafficker. Instead Mike says Milo "broke something" lol Also what is up with Joseph just letting Mike beat him to a pulp 3 times? He just let Mike near him 3X with no caution. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/09/24 Full Review Kirti s Not great as the first season but still a good watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/04/24 Full Review Read all reviews
