      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Palm Royale's fabulous cast and visual splendor make for a diverting enough destination, but its wayward tone results in a curiously unfulfilling trip to paradise.

Audience Member I love it. The writing, acting, production is good. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/26/24 Full Review Andrew J The settings, characters, costumes, and production qualities are top-notch. However, the writing is really bad. No coherent story line. The characters do this for a while, forget about it, then do that for a while, then forget about that also. They do things that are just plain silly (a character falls in love with a whale), and Carol Burnett just sits there all the time and doesn't do anything. I'm not sure what the writers were thinking, or what this show is supposed to be. Had great potential, but the writing ruins it. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review H H so good more drama please i dont why the show 56% should've been more for 100% Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Lala C Honestly, delightful and campy. Easy to fall for the characters and transforms you back to late 1960’s Palm Beach. The fashion, cars, and characters make this a 5-star! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review Andrew M A cast that's hard not to root for and a lot of intentional camp make for a fun, but not profound, watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review Ema R Middle good acceptable to watch, better tahn 55% imo Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) The costumes are colourful and dynamic while the production design is luxurious. If nothing else, it’s wonderful to look at. Apr 1, 2024 Full Review Esther Zuckerman Bloomberg News Loosely based on Juliet McDaniel’s novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie, the show is a dishy delight; even when its plot meanders, it is sustained by wildly entertaining performances. Mar 21, 2024 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) Created by Abe Sylvia, there’s sketch farce, delusional pathology, and revisionist history at work, with Wiig playing Maxine with a mannered optimism. I’m watching to see if it ties together, and for a stacked supporting cast. Mar 21, 2024 Full Review Sarah Knight Adamson Sarah's Backstage Pass Yes, the script is all over the place and, at times, very unrealistic, yet Kristen Wiig carries the series from start to finish, Carol Burnett is also a joy to watch! Rated: 3/4 Apr 22, 2024 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media Wiig is pitch perfect as Maxine, a social climber with a lot of water under her bridge; she's simultaneously relatable and ridiculous, and she looks absolutely fantastic in her wardrobe of floral 1960s shifts. Apr 10, 2024 Full Review Cassondra Feltus Black Girl Nerds 'Palm Royale' is a darkly funny dramedy with deliciously stunning visuals, glamorous fashion, wicked humor, and characters as layered as its mysteries. Rated: 4/5 Apr 5, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
