Lisa Weidenfeld Boston Globe No one is getting bundled up in a warm blanket and having a cup of tea to discuss the case. But there is something cozy about its vision of a world of people who strive so much to appreciate and understand someone who’s different from them. Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times Not everything makes perfect, or even imperfect, sense. But as always, the plots are there almost as a pretext to spend time with the characters, and the whole cast is good company. Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Nina Metz Chicago Tribune The cases themselves are interesting enough and sometimes pivot around an amusing premise. Rated: 3/4 Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Isabella Soares Collider Although Patience's main plot isn't groundbreaking — in fact, the series is an adaptation of a French production entitled Astrid et Raphaëlle — its thoughtful portrayal of autism and its authentic casting are what make this crime drama worth watching. Rated: 7/10 Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Barbara Ellen Observer (UK) It’s Purvis’s crisp and confident portrayal of Patience’s difference that makes the series stand out, taking a standard police procedural somewhere altogether more cryptic and interesting. cathy s Wasn’t expecting much as I found by accident but this series has really intrigued me. The 2 lead actors are female and their acting understated which made the slightly extreme plots seem believable. Interesting and touching to understand more about being autistic in the workplace. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/07/25 Full Review Elspeth F Such an excellent and fun and sweet depiction of a young woman with outstanding intelligence and capabilities. Its been curious to me to see the dismissive reviews, talking about how this show just plays into existing autism tropes.. honestly, I think the difference with this show and probably part of peoples defensive aggression towards the show or the character is that unlike professor T where hes set up to be the comical tragic hero and pitiful in his quirks because of his spectrum behavior, Patience is delightful and we get to see the world from within her view, as she is befriended and stood up for by the senior detective. Its not possible for her to be even subtly be the butt of any "just joking, but still actually humiliating" stereotypes, because without sentimentality or tropes, or holding up the story, we are invited to empathise with her, in a delightful way. I think its a shame some of those reviewers dont see what they are doing, deflecting from the whole point of the story, because they are either unwilling or unable to take up the invitation. I think its a beautiful, well paced, interesting series of detective stories, with some beautiful reversals of power dynamics that are actually the common tropes, so its a refreshing and gorgeous little show, and Id love to see series two and three get the green light, because its fun, unexpected, and warmhearted, the way neurodivergent life often also is. A sweet little rainy evening watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/25 Full Review Audience Member I don't watch series where the writers think I'm an idiot. After a character in the morgue "got up and walked" after a procedure that should have at least seriously injured him, I turned off this series and do not recommend it to anyone. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/11/25 Full Review David S An interesting new crime drama which gives an insight into autism, or neurodivergence. A very good series. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/25 Full Review Aaron T The portrayal of autism in this show is refreshing. Patience's character does a great job of representing the struggles of an autistic person in a neurotypical world, and we desperately need more shows and films like this to normalise neurodivergency and dispel the stigmas that exist in our society today. It's incredibly disappointing to see so many critics wrongly talking about the poor portrayal of neurodivergency in this TV series - these unjustified, scathing reviews are exactly why we need more shows like this. Neurodivergency is rarely portrayed well, and Patience is a fantastic example of how it should be done. I hope to see this show continued, and hope that the audience recognise it for what it is, despite the claims of the critics, who have made it very clear they do not understand autism, ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions portrayed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/25 Full Review don B Entertaining without being too heavy a nice light drama series. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/25 Full Review Read all reviews
