Patrick Melrose is a man from a very privileged yet traumatic childhood in the 1980s. Patrick's father was a very abusive man, and Patrick's mother put up with his behavior. Eventually, Patrick's childhood led him down a path into addiction and severe substance abuse in New York. "Patrick Melrose" is a five-part limited series based on the semi-autobiographical novels by Edward St. Aubyn from the 1980s through early 2000s.

It’s incredible how believable this story is when drugs are a factor. The first episode is wild. Hard to be uncomfortable & enjoyable at the same time. If you liked Charles Bukowski or Hunter S. Thompson then Edward St. Aubyn seems a fit. I’m gonna check out some of his writing. David Nicholls seems to be a virtuoso in his own right. I added a few of his other movies to my watch list as well. Good adaptation. Big fan of a lot of Edward Berger‘s work. This one is well done. Same seems to apply to Adam Ackland. Quite the all star team. Casting and acting held up their end of the bargain.

It as very hard to watch this man as he keeps getting drugged up. Turned it off after first episode…just too hard to watch, although Benedict Cumberbatch is enormously talented!
