What to Know

Critics Consensus

Queen Cleopatra may posit some fresh speculation about the ubiquitous monarch, but its glossy presentation errs more towards a superficial toga party than a substantive endeavor.

It’s a deliciously fun drama weighed down by the self-serious need to educate. Go to Full Review

While I still wouldn't call it extraordinary from a production standpoint, it is worth digesting in ways people easily incensed by its Blackness would never countenance. Go to Full Review

It is patchy sub-Game of Thrones cosplay interwoven with academics you’ve never heard of. Go to Full Review

I could not hold my laughter during scenes that were meant to be serious. The show’s creators struggled to decide the flavor they aimed to bring to the table, and ultimately a soap-opera-esque texture was produced. Go to Full Review

Queen Cleopatra was probably aiming for the Blood, Sex and Royalty vibe, but fell somewhere between the two stools of self-important and sassy. Go to Full Review

The series distorts history by inserting unnecessary drama to make a point about race. Creators could have easily removed the historians and just made a fictional account of Cleopatra that would have satisfied this agenda and told a better story. Go to Full Review

John A Nov 20 I wonder how the Execs at Netflix thought this would be a good idea to produce. To call this a documentary is a farce and I thought I would give the show a chance and watch it for the story and acting...this was even worse. Wooden or overdrama acting with a script that is so bad that one show was enough before I gave up. See more Kathrine M. Oct 27 Purely fake. False narratives and I don’t care what your grandmother said she does not have a first hand account. Cleopatra was not black or of black African descent. How could anyone allow this movie to be made and call it a documentary? See more Sep 8 If they would not have felt the need to style it as a documentary, the level of license taken might have been acceptable. As it stands, it's not entertaining or educational See more Brandon T Jul 27 This was a wonderful series and definitely accurate on her history. Great actress. See more Papa D Mar 20 Blonde Greek woman looks very strange in this show. In the genre section you need to add - fantasy. See more Walter O Mar 9 Lasted about 25 minutes, complete garbage See more Read all reviews
