Welcome to Ransom Canyon, where love, loss, and loyalty collide beneath the crimson mesas of Texas Hill Country. With three ranching family dynasties locked in a contest for control of the land, their lives and legacies are threatened by outside forces intent on destroying their way of life. At the center of it all is stoic rancher Staten Kirkland, who is healing from heartbreaking loss and on a quest for vengeance. Staten’s only glimmer of hope rests in the eyes and heart of Quinn O’Grady, longtime family friend and owner of the local dancehall. But as the battle to save Ransom wages on, a mysterious cowboy drifts into town, dredging up secrets from the past. Vise tightening, Staten fights to protect the land he calls home, and the only love that can pull him back from the demons that haunt him.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Inviting one too many unflattering comparisons to more compelling dramas, Ransom Canyon is a serviceable binge for fans of rustic soap operas but a middling example of the genre.

Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) The actors are gruffly charismatic, and their chemistry is genuine. But you wish their characters would just get a room and that Ransom Canyon busied itself with something more interesting than the dreariest will they/won’t they storyline... Rated: 2/5 Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Chris Vognar Boston Globe “Ransom Canyon” has almost as much “Friday Night Lights” in its DNA as “Yellowstone.” But where those shows were light on their feet, this one is merely lightweight. In the parlance of the region, it’s all hat, no cattle. Apr 18, 2025 Full Review Eric Deggans NPR It's a western-flavored mash up of predictable dramatics that makes [Taylor] Sheridan's work look like Shakespeare. Apr 17, 2025 Full Review Sarah Knight Adamson Sarah's Backstage Pass Ransom Canyon” is brought to life by Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly--despite the show’s predictability, their performances carry the series from start to finish, making it a pure delight to watch while keeping audiences captivated and invested. Rated: 3/4 May 7, 2025 Full Review Ronak Kotecha The Times of India While it shows flashes of promise, its predictable arcs and uneven pacing hold it back from truly standing out. tm11999 M the girls fvck all the weepy boys to save them. minka had trevor noah and jeter all up in her and now she's a big butted, moon faced 45 year old lady in west texas. selena the barmaid can't wait to take her pants off either. the QB is a 5'8" nappy headed rapper and all the texas white boys listen to rap. this was written and directed by girls for girls. plus none of the cowboys take their hats off indoors, skip this crapfest. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/26/25 Full Review Katylyn K Predictable storyline, stereotypical characters, and plot holes galore. The dialogue is forced, music is awkwardly timed, disorganized scene cuts are jarring... But it's like a car accident, and I can't look away. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/24/25 Full Review Audience Member I was really hopeful that the writing, acting and characters in Ransom Canyon would be captivating and interesting, similar to Virgin River. Sadly, it was not. Four episodes in and I was already more interested in watching paint dry than to endure the episodes. The series is slower moving than a herd of cattle. The characters and actors portraying them lack on-screen chemistry. The story line and dialog is as dull as watching a soap opera. The only thing the book and the series have in common is they are both snooze fests. This really could have been something had better care and effort been made all around from the scripts to the direction. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/14/25 Full Review Ian M Really enjoying it. Sure, it's 'soapy', but a nice break from some of the trash that the streaming platforms try to pass off as entertainment. And who doesn't want to be a cowboy with a 16,000 acre ranch, or a talented, beautiful pianist who makes lavender soap and owns a restored dance hall........I love it!! And my wife does too. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/09/25 Full Review Sean G Brilliant writing and directing that left me unwilling to wait for the next day to find out what was happening. I binged the whole season in 3 days and I rarely watch TV or movies because let's face it, they don't quite make TV like they used to. This was a good watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/05/25 Full Review Mari B Loved it! Hope there’s a season two! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/27/25 Full Review Read all reviews
