2d agoWhat do they even need costumes for if it doesn't matter if the cast look like modern London?
-
3d agoas aretha franklin would say, "great gowns, beautiful gowns." spent much of the series wondering if the writers were actually afraid to spend too much time on the main couple, because most of their moments together relied heavily (and also somewhat lazily) on references to other period pieces / boilerplate lingering looks, hand touches, and "mr darcy moments." for a show that promised so much romance and yearning, it was unfortunate that watching this felt like the writers did their best to check boxes on a list and hope for the best.

4d agoSanditon Season 3 was period drama perfection. From the sets to costumes to scandalous plot lines, this season delivered on all fronts. The ROMANCE and the ANGST were next level! I only wish there was more!

May 18, 2023I loved Sanditon 2 and 3! The casting was outstanding and the story, though not written by Jane Austen, was expertly written to continue her unfinished last novel in the Austen-like style. I wish they would've given more time to Charlotte and Colbourne's story before and after the engagement and marriage though. They were the highlight of my enjoyment. As I stated, the casting was spot-on and Rose Williams and Ben Lloyd-Hughes gave their characters believable flesh and emotion. (I wondered for a while if Ben Lloyd-Hughes and Alexander Colbourne were two different people!) Chrystal Clark superbly played Geogianna Lambe, Charlotte's best friend in Sanditon. Kris Marshall, Kate Ashfield, Turlough Convery, Eloise Webb, Flora Mitchell, Charlotte Spencer, Jack Fox, Lily Sacofsky, Rosie Graham, Tom Weston-Jones, Alexander Vlahos, Frank Blake, and the absolute pro, Anne Reid, MBE, made up some of the colorful main cast of Series 2 and 3. Every one of the subplots would be well-suited to carry on their own spin-offs. I wish they would. Both Series 2 and 3 had a range of events that covered romance, humor, intrigue, and suspense to make lively entertainment. I'd give Sanditon 10 stars if I could. I'm hooked and hope somehow this is not the end of Sanditon and the storylines.

May 12, 2023What a perfect way to wrap up a happily ever after for our heroine. But that comes later. New characters are introduced who toss a monkey wrench into the workings of Sanditon society. It's fast and furious of the beloved Austen story. More romance, some forbidden and some years in the making. It seems everyone is in love and it's not at all sappy or predictable. There is the return of a bad boy to really stir up trouble while another bad boy is working on redemption. You'll be very happy you came back for more Sanditon. #beyondSanditon

May 12, 2023this show is absolutely amazing. I have never found myself to attached to such an amazing group of characters. I want more and more and more.

Apr 24, 2023A tossed salad of characters and sub-plots. I got the impression that the writers made the story up as they went along, having to improvise as actors left the show for more satisfying work. Next time, maybe the writers will get the story down, cut irrelevant distractions (like Lady Denham's engagement, which strains all credibility), and focus on the arc of the central characters. If this had been a two-season series, maybe the principal actors would have stayed onboard and viewers like me would keep on watching.

Apr 21, 2023The second and third seasons of Sanditon are a true delight for fans of Jane Austen's period dramas. From the gorgeous costumes to the stunning cinematography, this show transports viewers to the Regency era in a way few others can. The characters are expertly crafted and brought to life by an incredible ensemble cast. Their interpersonal relationships and the conflicts that arise from them are both entertaining and thought-provoking. It's easy to get invested in their individual stories and root for them to find their happy endings. One of the standout aspects of these seasons is the attention paid to the historical and social context of the time. The show tackles issues such as gender roles, class inequality, and the effects of colonialism in a nuanced and thoughtful manner. In addition to the compelling storylines, the show also features stunning locations and breathtaking sets that transport viewers to the seaside town of Sanditon. The attention to detail is impressive, and the production team clearly put a lot of effort into creating an immersive world for viewers to lose themselves in. Overall, the second and third seasons of Sanditon are a true triumph. They are a must-watch for anyone who loves period dramas.

Apr 19, 2023Season 3 continues the recycling of plots / scenes / lines from Austen, other period dramas (especially Bronte), and Season 1 itself. An amusing approach perhaps, but pretty cheesy, more concerned with its own cleverness and a bizarre idea to transport 21st century feminism into the 19th century than actual, believable development of the storylines that is consistent with the original characters. Georgiana is the star of this season and the courtroom scene and its aftermath is by far the best writing/acting in the whole of Season 2 and 3. As usual, however, the unique story of a 19th century black heiress, daughter of a slave and a plantation owner, gets crowded out by lots of other unimportant subplots and minor characters. As does poor Charlotte. After briefly asserting her independence at the beginning of Season 2, she continues to flounder and prevaricate in Season 3, mired in moral confusion (she cheats on poor Ralph and doesn't tell him) and seemingly unable to speak her own mind. It's a far cry from the honest, outspoken, fun-loving woman of Season 1. Colbourne is an uninspiring love interest, but at least he's rich and she likes his kids? To be honest, I gave up caring about their love story once it became clear her former employer wasn't going to apologise for the appalling way he treated her in Season 2 and that she didn't seem bothered anyway. Wonderful acting from Jack Fox and Eloise Webb, but after his appalling exploits in Season 1 and 2, did we really need to see Edward grooming a teenage girl? Kudos to Arthur and the LGBT storyline, but again, no time to give this the depth it deserves, especially given the historical reality of the times. And they literally forgot that Lady Susan's name was Lady Worcester!!
