Daniel Fienberg The Hollywood Reporter Shogun had “prestige” written all over it. Yet the care taken by creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo to deliver this story without having it reek of appropriation and voyeurism was evident throughout. Jun 6, 2024 Full Review Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) Shōgun hasn’t been perfect. When it was slow, it was practically stationary. But the moving finale more than paid off all the time and patience demanded of its audience. Rated: 4/5 Apr 23, 2024 Full Review Phillip Maciak The New Republic One of the main features of this show—and the source of its most important narrative innovation—is how rigorously rule-bound its characters are. Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Tom Spoors Loud and Clear Reviews Shōgun is one of the best television shows to debut this decade, with visuals and performances that feel a cut above everything else out there. Rated: 5/5 Jan 7, 2025 Full Review Joonatan Itkonen Toisto.net In a time where streaming has made television series disposable, Shōgun feels timeless. Cameron C Best show I’ve seen in a very very long time. Stunningly beautiful and incredibly well acted. I can’t recommend enough to give shogun a shot; it will be well worth your time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review Brian F Absolutely the best show of 2024! Probably in recent memory. Well deserved recognition and scores. Top to bottom excellent. Acting was amazing. Not much else i can say that could do it justice. I will be sitting in front of the TV ready, when/if season 2 premieres. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/06/25 Full Review Douglas V I'm seven episodes in on a second viewing and basking in the intricate details of narrative, design, and performance. To know the story and be able to focus on the details is a cinematic treat. Toranaga and Mariko's performances epitomize range and subtlety. Meaning is imbued in the mundane and profound, quintessentially Japanese. I "suffered" Blackthorne on the first viewing, but even he earns a certain grace on second viewing, crafting his awkward counterpoint role (symbolically, Joseph Campbell's the hero's journey). His moment, in service of Mariko, is extraordinary. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/03/25 Full Review Gregory S Watched this on a dare, and was incredibly and wonderfully surprised. This is an excellent show. The actors all did superb and the story was fantastic. Can not wait for the next season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/02/25 Full Review Alexander M Best show of the year, or last years in my opinion. Everything is great, pacing, plot, characters and stunning visuals. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/31/24 Full Review Yash A I really the show I like the Japanese culture Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/27/24 Full Review Read all reviews
