Absolutely the best show of 2024! Probably in recent memory. Well deserved recognition and scores. Top to bottom excellent. Acting was amazing. Not much else i can say that could do it justice. I will be sitting in front of the TV ready, when/if season 2 premieres.

I'm seven episodes in on a second viewing and basking in the intricate details of narrative, design, and performance. To know the story and be able to focus on the details is a cinematic treat. Toranaga and Mariko's performances epitomize range and subtlety. Meaning is imbued in the mundane and profound, quintessentially Japanese. I "suffered" Blackthorne on the first viewing, but even he earns a certain grace on second viewing, crafting his awkward counterpoint role (symbolically, Joseph Campbell's the hero's journey). His moment, in service of Mariko, is extraordinary.
