Daniel Fienberg Hollywood Reporter Shogun had “prestige” written all over it. Yet the care taken by creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo to deliver this story without having it reek of appropriation and voyeurism was evident throughout. Jun 6, 2024 Full Review Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) Shōgun hasn’t been perfect. When it was slow, it was practically stationary. But the moving finale more than paid off all the time and patience demanded of its audience. Rated: 4/5 Apr 23, 2024 Full Review Phillip Maciak The New Republic One of the main features of this show—and the source of its most important narrative innovation—is how rigorously rule-bound its characters are. Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Abe Friedtanzer Cinema Daily US In a world this massive, there’s much to find fascinating, and audiences are sure to connect with many facets of its multidimensional historical saga. Rated: B+ Jul 27, 2024 Full Review Jared Mobarak Hey, Have You Seen ...? The meaning behind each [death] is only augmented by the three-dimensional performances delivered by a cast that knows they might be next. Nobody can afford to mail it in. Rated: 9/10 Jul 12, 2024 Full Review Nelson Acosta Koimoi The show manages to translate the classic novel excellently and concretely without ever losing the political and cultural complexities that make the story such a classic. Jason P Stays better with the book than the 1980 Richard Chamberlain mini-series. Season1 is essentially the whole book with a couple of parts left out (which may be explored in season 2). Subsequent seasons are planned based on what would be the epilogue and the true story it's based on. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/26/24 Full Review Tom F I resisted watching this for a while, but it lived up to the hype as an epic worth watching. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/26/24 Full Review Amy M Visually striking and an incredible watch. The pacing at some moments was slightly off (speeding through things that could have been better explained and overplaying other parts), but it is one of the best individual series I have watched in a long time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/25/24 Full Review We'll Bring The P Shogun is one of the best series released this year and is an absolute must watch event. They take such care and dedication to storytelling, character development and absolutely beautiful set designs and costuming that really transports you into this world that you never want to leave. No one feels out of place and while the ending can be a bit mixed from some, it was a satisfying conclusion to a beautifully told story. Anna Sawai absolutely steals the show for every episode she is in as Mariko, a true game changing performance, but every single actor did an amazing job in this show bringing the world to life. Shogun is near perfection. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/22/24 Full Review Ashley K Incredible series rich with historical facts and Japanese culture! Great acting and rich cinematography! To LOVED IT! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/21/24 Full Review Gary C Frustrated! It is very difficult trying to capture the feeling of the actors, the progress of the series and important details while you are distracted trying to read subtitles.
