Visually sumptuous and enriched with cultural verisimilitude, Shōgun is an epic adaptation that outdoes the original.

Trent T I thoroughly enjoyed Shogun for its captivating portrayal of historical events and complex characters that kept me hooked for most of the series. However, the pacing in the latter episodes felt noticeably slower compared to the energetic tempo set earlier, which somewhat dimmed my enthusiasm as the series neared its end. Unfortunately, the finale didn't quite live up to the high expectations set by the initial episodes, leaving a bit of a grand letdown. Despite these pacing issues and a somewhat underwhelming conclusion, "Shogun" still offers a lot worth praising, especially for those intrigued by rich historical narratives. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/27/24 Full Review Christopher K I was enthralled from the very start. The Culture and History is amazing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/27/24 Full Review Christopher K by far the best show on any streaming service. Sad there is only 1 season. Ending way to soon for such a great show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/27/24 Full Review Audience Member First half was amazing 5 stars!!! But an entire build up to a war to end with well nothing but a bad poem. Even if the war didn’t need to take place more then a 10 second flash forward to his final goal would have been great. Could have had more episodes but instead he tells 2-4 episodes up content in 5 min lol. Every boring last 3 episodes. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/27/24 Full Review Sheena C great show! must watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/27/24 Full Review Armando C Entretenida, es una película que no importa que esté hablado en Japonés original y a su vez doblada en algunos personajes. Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) Shōgun hasn’t been perfect. When it was slow, it was practically stationary. But the moving finale more than paid off all the time and patience demanded of its audience. Rated: 4/5 Apr 23, 2024 Full Review Phillip Maciak The New Republic One of the main features of this show—and the source of its most important narrative innovation—is how rigorously rule-bound its characters are. Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Graeme Blundell The Australian It’s the most impressive opening, the detail in mise en scene and costume immaculate and the acting, able to seemingly grasp the mentality of feudal Japan with its values of patience, loyalty, and sacrifice. Apr 5, 2024 Full Review Kyle Foley But Why Tho? A Geek Community Shōgun is a series full of emotion and character growth and stands out among the best television has to offer. There is something here for everyone, and it is sure to satisfy. Rated: 9.5/10 Apr 18, 2024 Full Review Erik Kain Forbes Better a top-notch limited series than a show that drags out forever with filler episodes and declining quality. Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Barbara Ellen Observer (UK) For all the bloodshed, this is an intricate study of power, warcraft and betrayal. The deluge of subtitles make it feel yet more smoky, magical and mysterious. I didn’t expect much, but I’m finding it fascinating. Rated: 4/5 Apr 15, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
