Mensa-fied best friends and roommates Leonard and Sheldon, physicists who work at the California Institute of Technology, may be able to tell everybody more than they want to know about quantum physics, but getting through most basic social situations, especially ones involving women, totally baffles them. How lucky, then, that babe-alicious waitress/aspiring actress Penny moves in next door. Frequently seen hanging out with Leonard and Sheldon are friends and fellow Caltech scientists Wolowitz and Koothrappali. Will worlds collide? Does Einstein theorize in the woods?

What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Big Bang Theory brings a new class of character to mainstream television, but much of the comedy feels formulaic and stiff.

Jonathan Storm Philadelphia Inquirer It may not be a creative breakthrough, but it's lots funnier than the universal equation would predict. Apr 3, 2020 Full Review Mike McDaniel Houston Chronicle There's a reason this concept is overworked: It succeeds more than it fails. Rated: B- Apr 3, 2020 Full Review Scott Tobias AV Club It's hard to believe that anyone's even making a three-camera sitcom this mothballed. Rated: D+ Sep 13, 2013 Full Review Scott D. Pierce Deseret News (Salt Lake City) "Big Bang" is funny. Really funny. And that's something most of the trendy half-hour "comedies" aren't these days. Apr 3, 2020 Full Review Alan Pergament Buffalo News This series manages to be smart and lame at the same time, just like the male leads. Apr 3, 2020 Full Review Tom Jicha South Florida Sun-Sentinel The Big Bang Theory isn't a threat to break into the ranks of classic comedies but it's thoroughly enjoyable, thanks to brilliant star turns by Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki. Jacopo F BORING!!!! I write here just leave a review for the full serie. God dammit i hated this serie, just because i'm a person who finish whatever he starts. Started as a failure with lots of so predictable stereotypes, ended tryng to milk those stereotypes to pull out something good. BUT IT DOESN'T and it tries to do that for twelve freaking seasons. Just why. Why anyone would ever do something like that, i really do not undestand which audience is the target of the show. Everybody knows that nerds try to catch up with the story and hate filler episodes full of absolutely nothing (and the big bang theory has plenty of them). And i sure do not undestand why this serie has so many awards. It does NOT deserve them, any of them. no growth of the carachters, no major changes. nothing. I'm really unconfortable talking so bad about a sitcom with such fame because usually i do love sitcoms (HIMYM, the office, parks and recreation and much more), but this, goddamit. This took away too much useful time for trying to hope for something good along the way, now that i'm finally finishing it i can surely say it: This serie is trash, all the people who loved the serie are dumb and the director was a real moneygrabber (actually good for him). Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/25 Full Review Audience Member I absolutely love this show!!! It is my all time favorite ! You can tell that in the first season it was till trying to find itself, but I still love it!
