Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) This limited series gets to some crazy places after a warm-up of dinner-table sniping and sexual control, but the implausibility doesn’t lessen the enjoyment. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 18, 2025 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Girlfriend is hardly high art, but it is an outright gas. Rated: 3/4 Sep 18, 2025 Full Review Tim Glanfield The Times (UK) And while there’s a smattering of class commentary and occasional attempts at deeper meaning, this is a drama that should be enjoyed for what is: a rollercoaster of fun and games. Rated: 4/5 Sep 17, 2025 Full Review Tatat Bunnag Bangkok Post For all its talk of manipulation, paranoia and family loyalty, it rarely digs deeper than surface-level theatrics. Sep 23, 2025 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media Watching these two clash is great fun, the very definition of binge-worthy drama. Rated: 4/5 Sep 19, 2025 Full Review Alberto Carlos Espinof ...The Girlfriend doesn't invent anything new, nor does it aim to be relevant in its themes; it's simply entertaining, and that's all it is. Brian D 71%. 9/22/25. Hadn't seen audience rating. Good concept, kind of felt like White Lotus, just got dumber and more ridiculous. Also never liked how they showed both the mom and the girlfriend's perspective. Was sort of interesting to see, but just felt sort of repetitive. Both the mom and girlfriend were psychopaths. The mom was crazy to fake her son's death. And the son was pretty annoying and easily manipulated. The end also sucked. Didn't get why the mom had to drug the son. And a son would never hold there mom under water like that. Intriguing enough of a show, but just not very good. 1.5/5 rewatch Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/01/25 Full Review Mark B I mean, it's good soap opera'ish fun: I'll give it that. We're asked to suspend belief too often: parts of the storyline are over the top and unbelievable, and the series would have benefitted from a less-exaggerated script. Still, it's a fun ride, and a good excuse to see Robin Wright in action. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/25 Full Review Tom S It's pretty fun to watch but is cheesy trash ultimately. The girlfriend may be a total pain in the backside but the boyfriend - holy macaroni - he should've been killed off in the first episode. Also, the storyline about Cherry being from a working-class background with a mother who is a butcher is absolutely completely implausible. But whatever - good laugh if you fancy disengaging your brain for a bit. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/25 Full Review Ken D Another victim of an unlikable lead. Cherry is so insanely unlikable, I couldn’t continue watching after halfway through episode two. What a shame. It had potential. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/25 Full Review Christine L Absolutely stupid fun. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/29/25 Full Review Jude R. This show was so so so so good! But the mom pmo I wanted to punch her in the face so bad. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/29/25 Full Review Read all reviews
