What to Know

Critics Consensus

A glittering cast is worth its weight in Gold, giving this posh caper plenty of compelling glamor to go along with its trenchant class commentary.

Nicholas Quah New York Magazine/Vulture [Delivers] prime cuts of the fundamental genre pleasures: criminals doing criminal stuff, detectives trying to stop them, and an entire vivid universe that exists between them. Jan 4, 2024 Full Review Judy Berman TIME Magazine If creator Neil Forsyth presses a bit too hard on British class dynamics, in earnest monologues that spell out themes viewers can easily glean without them, it's all in service of a stylish procedural that's gripping from beginning to end. Edward L An excellent drama-doc that hits the British obsession with class right on the head. Some changes in names etc. have been made presumably to avoid libel charges but the story is generally accurate. The casting is somewhat stereotypical but at least uses some excellent actors. Poor old Sean Gilder is again cast as a corrupt senior police officer, so as soon as he appears on screen we know he is a 'wrong-un'! But a good watch nonetheless. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/20/25 Full Review Ken D In S1, the plot was dramatised so that for the first three episodes viewers probably had empathy for the protagonist - the police. But the second three episodes changed that so that empathy switched towards the antagonists. In part this was due to the unraveling of an audacious plan, but also due to the pig-headedness of the Boyce character - the man who seemed to know everything and had all the good ideas. Really? S1 also showed all the antagonists to have flaws, yet the protagonist seemed to have none, which is most unlikely in any drama. And let’s remember, John Fordhams death was due to poor planing by Boyce who showed no real remorse. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/11/25 Full Review Gareth v An entertaining and extraordinary look at one of the world's biggest heists. If you're into true crime stories, you'll love this. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/02/25 Full Review Flixster F Some series just go unnoticed. This was one such piece of gold. Based on real events, the story is nicely told. Thankfully (for me at least) it is told in a simple manner & not complicated (unnecessarily). Some of the aspects obviously feel exaggerated but it's 'based on real events' and not a documentary. Heard that they're gonna have a second season too. The first one is satisfying in itself but if they go for the second season, I hope that it's just as intriguing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/03/24 Full Review Dave C An enjoyable dramatisation of a mega-heist with a lot of luck and a lot of character. Nicely cast, and well-acted Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review Bob M Over does the class war element a bit, but consistently excellent. Bonneville is outstanding.
