"The Serpent Queen" is a cunning account of one of the most influential women ever to wear a crown: Catherine de' Medici; considered an immigrant, common and plain, de' Medici marries into the 16th century French court as an orphanedteenager, expected to bring a fortune in dowry and produce many heirs; she quickly discovers that her husband is in love with an older woman, her dowry is unpaid, and she is unable to conceive; yet, with only her intelligence and determination, she manages to keep her marriage alive and masters the bloodsport that is the monarchy better than anyone else, ruling France for 50 years.

Kylie Northover The Age (Australia) This season, with Morton and Driver as two of Europe’s great 16th-century monarchs going head-to-head, may be even more fun than the first. Rated: 4/5 Jul 18, 2024 Full Review Susan Granger SSG Syndicate Scheming, spicy, and satirical - it's a guilty pleasure. Rated: 7/10 Sep 5, 2024 Full Review Chris Revelle Pajiba Driver is such a joy to watch and I think her performance will complement Morton’s dryer stylings well. This is a great jolt of energy for the show. Jul 30, 2024 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Despite the notion that The Serpent Queen has become a show where only half is about Catherine’s machinations, half of Samantha Morton as Catherine is better than none. Jul 15, 2024 Full Review Preston Barta Fresh Fiction Not much can compete with 'The Serpent Queen's wicked verbal swordplay. The second season continues with its stinging analysis of politics and power dynamics. Samantha Morton is a firestorm of excellence. Jul 12, 2024 Full Review David Caballero Collider If more shows had half the daring nature of The Serpent Queen, television would be in much better shape. Emmanuel F Absolutely amazing! The last episode reminds me of the red wedding. I just love it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review Nicole D Just the right right amount of humor and deceit. Love it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Audience Member Ecdysismuch? meh . . Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/04/24 Full Review Andrei D Too obsessed with clever politics and modern songs Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/03/24 Full Review Bryon P I absolutely LOVED the first season. It was edgey, had the consistent punk theme, and was different. This season is pretty much like any other period piece, historical or fiction. It is a "fine" show, but misses all of the punch of the prior season. I am very disappointed. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/31/24 Full Review Peter M Great show. Loved the last episode of Season 2. Looking forward to Season 3! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/31/24 Full Review Read all reviews
