On one day in 1989, 43 infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by billionaire industrialist Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who creates the Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world. In their teenage years, though, the family fractures and the team disbands. Fast forward to the present time, when the six surviving members of the clan reunite upon the news of Hargreeves' passing. They work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father's death, but divergent personalities and abilities again pull the estranged family apart, and a global apocalypse is another imminent threat. The series is based on a collection of comics and graphic novels created and written by My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way.

If there’s a messiness to how this season unfolds, there’s a boldness too. And though I suspect there are some choices that will be divisive among the fanbase, it’s nice to see the show go out while it’s still able to make big swings.

The Umbrella Academy ending now could be considered yet more evidence of the ongoing contraction superhero content is currently experiencing. It’s ending strong, though, with enough commitment to its characters to make its most memorable moments shine.

I thought season 4 was overall very good and probably the funniest one yet. The ending dragged on a bit for me but it was quite clever and it felt like the right way of ending the show.

I really enjoyed the first season of Umbrella Academy, but it went down hill from there. Culminating in this disastrous finally season, which kind of ruined the whole series for me. Largely because it decided to start catering to one characters off screen real life issues, at the expense of other characters and the overall story. When that started affecting ratings and viewership, it's like they just said to heck with it, and decided to ruin the whole thing with this season.

Season 3 ended with a twist and a very open ending (literally) that could have developed a deeper conspiracy theory story. But no, it completely ended all my dreams and expectations with 6 short, abrupt episodes that only talked about reality (literally): Like nothing ever happened. What a pity.

Binge watched it over 3 days. Really enjoy the characters and the sense of chaos. Sad it was only 6 episodes but for me the season was self consistent and pulled together many of the loose ends from previous seasons. Great fun but sad that was likely the last season, though with so much reality being torn apart there could always be a way.
