On one day in 1989, 43 infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by billionaire industrialist Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who creates the Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world. In their teenage years, though, the family fractures and the team disbands. Fast forward to the present time, when the six surviving members of the clan reunite upon the news of Hargreeves' passing. They work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father's death, but divergent personalities and abilities again pull the estranged family apart, and a global apocalypse is another imminent threat. The series is based on a collection of comics and graphic novels created and written by My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way.

Valerie Anne Autostraddle This is the way The Umbrella Academy ends, not with a bang, but a whimper. Aug 14, 2024 Full Review Caroline Siede Episodic Medium (Substack) If there’s a messiness to how this season unfolds, there’s a boldness too. And though I suspect there are some choices that will be divisive among the fanbase, it’s nice to see the show go out while it’s still able to make big swings. Aug 8, 2024 Full Review Liz Shannon Miller Consequence The Umbrella Academy ending now could be considered yet more evidence of the ongoing contraction superhero content is currently experiencing. It’s ending strong, though, with enough commitment to its characters to make its most memorable moments shine. Rated: B+ Aug 8, 2024 Full Review Kenneth Broome Black Nerd Problems I wish Umbrella Academy had an ending that gave a bit more, but they gave us an ending that made sense in the very least; though, it was a very messy, muddy path to get there. Aug 22, 2024 Full Review Tori Preston Pajiba In a show known for taking big, unexpected swings, it ended on the biggest most unexpected one yet. I think that’s pretty cool. Aug 19, 2024 Full Review Cheryl Eddy io9.com Umbrella Academy‘s final season doesn’t quite stick the landing. Aug 16, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Viktor J this was such a unique show. The music, the fight sequences, the powers, the plot, and then then for season 4 the writers essentially said " what show? ". Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Aleigh O Strange. It felt like a two season show shoved into six episodes. The way the rewrote some of the characters' personalities, and how the setting had barely any tie to the previous seasons made it feel like a completely different show. Someone with minimal background info could've had the same experience watching this as someone who'd seen the previous seasons. *Spoilers* It felt like they added random crucial elements to the story because they needed an 'interesting plot.' Ex: The concept of the Marigold and the Datura (or whatever) could've been introduced early on in the seasons, rather than some random "oh by the way..." and make it the reason the ending is what it is. A lot of the subplots were unimportant, and just a way to 'keep up appearances.' The subplot of the Subway could've been such an interesting concept they could've expanded on, and make it have more importance than Five and Lila's (weird) affair, and a way for Lila and Diego's family to escape (which would make no sense seeing as the other timelines were reset). Many moments in the show were a weak attempt of being "funny" (baby shark and season 2 car scene (gross btw)), or "quirky" (too many scenes to cite). Also, couldn't Viktor remove the Marigold from his siblings/Lila like he did with Harlan? Or was that too simple of a solution? Great show, loved the first two seasons, and they should've left it there. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/22/25 Full Review Sam C Watch the first 2 seasons and park it right there. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/25 Full Review Ultra B Season 3 and 4 ruined Umbrella Academy! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/21/25 Full Review Tanya Z SPOILERS. What was the point of the entire Klaus storyline? It's like they didnt know how to use him to move the plot forward so they dumped him in a brothel (and it was all done in very poor, insensitive taste, by the way) then had him buried alive, then rescued...saved by Allison. None of this moved the plot forward whatsoever. At least the CIA storyline with Luther and Diego revealed how far up the Keepers went, even though it also felt like they didn't know where to dump those characters while they moved the plot forward. It all felt very lazy. Viktor was not convincing at all, and Reggie wasn't true to his character. It didn't feel like he was experiencing an arc...it just felt like he wasn't being written accurately. There were too many attempts at sappy moments that fell flat. And contrary to many reviews that stated this all felt rushed, I'd say it was dragged on unnecessarily in many ways, and was simply the victim of seriously sloppy writing. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/25 Full Review Virginia C It was rushed, the five/Lila thing was just a weird sidetrack adding nothing to the story, and the ending was exceptionally unsatisfying.
