After a capsized Daryl Dixon washes ashore in France, he struggles to piece together how he got there and why. His arrival in France raises the ire of leaders within an autocratic movement centered in Paris, and endangers a young boy at the heart of a benevolent religious movement called the Union of Hope. Daryl agrees to shepherd the child and his caretakers on their pilgrimage to the Nest, a sanctuary that promises safety, in return for the Union's help securing him passage back to America. The series tracks Daryl's journey, fighting his way through the unique Walker strains and provincial violence of France. Along the way, Daryl finds his desire to return home complicated by the new connections he forms and the renewed sense of hope these relationships give him. Meanwhile, back in America, Carol Peletier's search for Daryl forces her to confront old trauma, as she enlists a new ally under false pretenses to help her.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Bringing Carol back into the fold cuts into some of the elements that made this Walking Dead spinoff unique, but having Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride sharing the screen again will always be an undead treat.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) The transatlantic shift worked the first time, putting Daryl in a different scenario, landscape and headspace, but now adding his long-time friend and comrade, Carol Peletier, to the story actually pulls the show back to a familiar dynamic. Oct 3, 2024 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com In essence, “The Book of Carol” lacks the layered heft those who were pleasantly surprised by the previous chapter might have expected. Oct 1, 2024 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba Once, The Walking Dead was engaging, sometimes unpredictable, and often heartfelt, capable of delivering devastating blows. But now, it’s more lifeless than its zombies. Nov 5, 2024 Full Review Joel Keller Decider The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon continues to work because it puts one of the franchise’s best characters in an unfamiliar situation. Oct 1, 2024 Full Review David Opie Radio Times With Carol's return also returns some of the issues that made the original Walking Dead tough to endure. Still, it's undeniably thrilling to see Daryl and Carol back together again, to see this spin-off become the show it was always supposed to be. Rated: 3/5 Sep 30, 2024 Full Review Matt Fowler IGN Movies The Book of Carol, despite the story's occasionally clunky reshaping, is still a potent, poignant reunion between two Walking Dead favorites. The action is great, the seasonal resolution works, and the final sequence offers clever catharsis. Rated: 7/10 Sep 23, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Marie M Over the years TWD changed, the authenticity of the story weakened and the visual outcome became the priority. While this season shows beautiful scenery, there is a lot of cringey impossible situations that makes you lose interest in what is happening. In my opinion, it lacked depth. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/03/25 Full Review Nesrin U They brought back Carol back just to patch the sinking sahip. No story,No sould -just desperete fan service Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/17/25 Full Review andres y The world of The Walking Dead has so much potential, but they keep missing the mark. Instead of creating new stories and characters, they keep using the same old ones over and over, which makes it no longer feel like a zombie survival show. At its heart, the original series was great, but it seems like they've become too afraid to kill off major characters and now just introduce new ones only to kill them off. Honestly, it just feels ridiculous at this point — kind of like Fast & Furious. I honestly suggest going back to the start of the apocalypse with a new story and keeping it simpler. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/02/25 Full Review Be Kind A Reading the reviews I can see the disappointment in a lot of people that watched this. I am also the same i was disappointing with the second season. The first season was Really great with everything. The camera work the writing and story and the acting was good also. The second season wan Nothing like the first. Rambling pity party story for some of the actors with all talk and No action, remember this is a show about zombies Not pitiful crying story lines. Also a Big problem I could not understand what the 70% of the actors were saying. Their accents were so strong i could only understand a small amount of what they were saying! How about getting some actors that you can understand when they speak. Hopeful they get the same Team that was involved in season 1 for season number 3. One of the episodes i did like was the farm house episode with the 2 older couples, I thought that was the best for season number 2. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/24/25 Full Review Audience Member Almost as good as the first season, although it felt like this one dragged on a lot more. This entire season was focused on only one topic, the boy, where the last season had multiple story lines and character plots, this season does not. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/19/25 Full Review Julian D Great seeing Carol and Daryl together again. A bit over the top bust still awesome. Giving 5 Stars because of the hate here Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/13/25 Full Review Read all reviews
