After a capsized Daryl Dixon washes ashore in France, he struggles to piece together how he got there and why. His arrival in France raises the ire of leaders within an autocratic movement centered in Paris, and endangers a young boy at the heart of a benevolent religious movement called the Union of Hope. Daryl agrees to shepherd the child and his caretakers on their pilgrimage to the Nest, a sanctuary that promises safety, in return for the Union's help securing him passage back to America. The series tracks Daryl's journey, fighting his way through the unique Walker strains and provincial violence of France. Along the way, Daryl finds his desire to return home complicated by the new connections he forms and the renewed sense of hope these relationships give him. Meanwhile, back in America, Carol Peletier's search for Daryl forces her to confront old trauma, as she enlists a new ally under false pretenses to help her.

Critics Consensus

Bringing Carol back into the fold cuts into some of the elements that made this Walking Dead spinoff unique, but having Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride sharing the screen again will always be an undead treat.

With Carol's return also returns some of the issues that made the original Walking Dead tough to endure. Still, it's undeniably thrilling to see Daryl and Carol back together again, to see this spin-off become the show it was always supposed to be.

The Book of Carol, despite the story's occasionally clunky reshaping, is still a potent, poignant reunion between two Walking Dead favorites. The action is great, the seasonal resolution works, and the final sequence offers clever catharsis.

It’s the same thing over and over with this franchise- good vs bad people, fight, some people die and Daryl and friends continue on. Rinse and repeat. Also the walkers who are all bones would have their brains eaten by now and so thus would be really dead. Don’t understand how all those old dead walkers wouldn’t have decayed after years and can still be zombies.

Such an improvement over the first in every area, where each episode was eventful, action packed and wastes little time. Bringing back Carol adds some needed emotion, there was a more sombre edge this time around for these two characters that felt like classic Walking Dead with added scope, exploration of religion and awesome long take action with num-chuks. Quite impressed with this season. The Walking Dead is still alive and well.

I really wanted to like this show because I liked Daryl and Carol for the first six seasons of TWD. Unfortunately, brain-dead zombies seem to be writing and directing this series. In every episode, there are at least a half dozen things that are just so damned dumb.

Season 1+2 is pretty awesome...revived my interest in Walking Dead that was dead. lol....can't wait for season 3 !

Over the years TWD changed, the authenticity of the story weakened and the visual outcome became the priority. While this season shows beautiful scenery, there is a lot of cringey impossible situations that makes you lose interest in what is happening. In my opinion, it lacked depth.
