What to Know

Critics Consensus

A solid animated adaptation, The Legend of Lara Croft does a fine job of adding new dimensions to the iconic hero while chartering an adventure that's not quite worthy of her.

Rendy Jones RogerEbert.com “Tomb Raider: Legend of Lara Croft” fits alongside the acclaimed TV versions of “Fallout” and “The Last of Us,” continuing the strong streak of video game television adaptations that are far better than they have any right to be. Oct 11, 2024 Full Review David Opie Empire Magazine The Legend Of Lara Croft is an uneven bridge between the old and new of the Tomb Raider franchise, one that doesn’t quite live up to the high standards of the recent video-game-to-anime renaissance. Rated: 2/5 Oct 10, 2024 Full Review James Hanton The Indiependent While imperfect, The Legend of Lara Croft continues the character’s immaculate reinvention and moves towards the emotional richness that fans deserve. Rated: 3 / 5 Oct 18, 2024 Full Review Matt Cabral Common Sense Media That gripe aside, Tomb Raider works well as a fan-servicing continuation of the game series, while also inviting the uninitiated to grab a pickaxe and dig into the artifact-finding fun. Oct 17, 2024 Full Review Alex Maidy JoBlo's Movie Network I don’t think this series will usurp plans for another live-action Tomb Raider movie, but producers of the next film should take a cue from the tone and style of this animated offering when developing the next big screen outing. Rated: 7/10 Oct 15, 2024 Full Review Lyvie Scott Inverse A compelling watch for hard-core fans and newbies alike, proving that game adaptations don’t always have to be hard-and-fast reboots of the source material. Korra N While not the continuation the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy deserves but still a fairly decent anime, The Legend of Lara Croft is more akin to the original games than the gritty & intense nature of the reboot. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/02/25 Full Review Danny P Where does one even start with this show? What used to be a cool, stylish British smokeshow is now an unrecognizably generic looking character with borderline masculine body type and features, and a dreadful taste in attire. The way Lara is written isnt any better. For every little attempt to make her channel a more classic Croft personality, the writers double down on the worst aspects of the most recent rebooted version of her, from her regular whining, emotional baggage dumping, crying at every opportunity she gets, rejection of her femininity, lack of independence from her friends, to religiously sticking to her bow like she hates firearms. There's no sign of the classy, charismatic, sophisticated English lady that she once was. This Lara is petulant at one moment and docile in another. She's written in a such an unlikeable and pretentious way that i could write a whole essay about it. It's difficult to think of redeeming qualities this show has. Some of the places Lara visits are interesting enough, the show is first time in ages when Lara is seen on a globe trotting adventure, there's some fan service with Lara's iconic dual pistols near the end, a few serviceable action scenes. Other than that the story is unenjoyable and cliched in all the worst ways. The main villain is weak. Supporting characters are an irritating bunch, especially Zip. Jonah may be the only somewhat decent character in the whole thing. If this show is canon to the games and is suppose to set up the so called 'unified timeline' where all eras of Tomb Raider games come together, it is off to a poor start. This Lara has next to nothing in common with the versions of the character that made her iconic. It wasnt just Lara doing an olympic gymnast worthy feat or a snarky quip that made this character such a stand out, it was the whole package from her unattainable looks, cool outfits, no-nonsense attitude, larger than life personality, absurd capabilities, sharp intellect, posh Britishness, to her geeky hi-tech gear, qualities most of which are MIA with this Lara. Unless there's a radical change in direction from the person/s steering the Tomb Raider IP i dont see it improving. Then again they're the ones who greenlit this single worst piece of major Tomb Raider media in the first place. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/04/25 Full Review Lucy V very weird how this show is getting this much hate .. I love Lara croft and the tomb raider franchise, always been a fan since I was a kid, I was so glad to hear it's getting an animated series, and I enjoyed watching it, I thought the direction they went with is very interesting and fresh, does fall short in some area's like focusing more on the world building or mythology rather than getting you to like the characters and care for them first , I usually find it hard to care about a plot when the characters aren't all that important or interesting from a writing perspective, zip and sam were the only ones I wanted to see more of, which is a bad sign honestly, lara needs better refinement, the show has it's issues, but it's by not any means bad or even average, i think it was quite good and fun to watch, I hope they do more and do better .. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/25/25 Full Review Junie B Watchable but kinda forgettable Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/25 Full Review Audience Member L'intrigue est vraiment intéressante. En revanche le personnage de Lara est loin de celui que je connais. Son développement dans cette série d'animation n'est pas terrible voire décevant. Les dessins sont plutôt jolis mais moins d'être extraordinaires. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/02/25 Full Review night o Not sure why it getting low score.it good sold show.fun .
