Unraveling a brutal mystery with a sensitive touch, Under the Bridge occasionally glosses over its most interesting elements but excels as an exploration of cruelty.

Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express What saves Under The Bridge is the series' commitment to its central character and what made her show up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Rated: 3/5 Apr 29, 2024 Full Review Riese Bernard Autostraddle Godfrey’s book, and the series, avoid the urge to slot this event into an easy narrative template, and in turn, create something incredibly rare: a true crime drama less concerned with scandal or mystery than it is with empathy and curiosity. Apr 22, 2024 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Under the Bridge” works as a retelling of a specific time-and-place story, but also a sobering reminder this sort of thing still happens to this day, and far too often. Rated: 3.5/4 Apr 20, 2024 Full Review Neely Swanson Beverly Hills Courier Not only are two very good actors wasted, Riley Keough as Rebecca Godfrey and Lily Gladstone as Cam Bentland, but the writer’s insistence on going backwards and forwards in time... only muddies an already muddled story. May 24, 2024 Full Review Derek Sante Review Nation The twists and turns of this series make each character a shining light as you follow along, I loved it and give it an A-. Rated: A- May 23, 2024 Full Review Rachel Ho Exclaim! The series never excuses the actions of those responsible, but it does take the time to understand them. Jockecoca B this was good, a bit slow, but good Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/26/24 Full Review Spencer W I went into the show not knowing anything about the crime -- but jezzum crow this was a good show. I loved the stylistic choices they took. Definitely give this show a peep when you can. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/24/24 Full Review The S It’s not bad but it’s weird how the underlying theme seems to be use people for what you can get out of them. The kids just become pawns for the writer who would sacrifice any and all of them for her book, her profit, her noteriety. So it seems like a common theme in recent series where all the characters are unlikable. You can’t find anyone to root for in this story because all the characters are wholly unlikable. And that may work for some series, In a story about a teen’s murder, you really need someone to at least evoke some kind of sympathy or empathy. But nobody in the whole story deserves it. So you’re left with a story about a bunch of people you dislike bouncing around and using one another for their own benefit. Where’s the draw? Where’s the hook? At some point, you simply don’t care who killed who and why. That’s the real problem with the writing and character development. I really doubt that in the real story, the people were as unlikable as the characters portraying them in this series. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/24/24 Full Review Christina B I’m trying so hard to like this show. The story is interesting, for sure. But the acting is brutal! Just awful. Also, there isn’t a single likable character. Everyone in the show makes incredibly dumb, reckless decisions. I’m also trying to figure out why it’s okay for the journalist to just hang out with high schoolers? I like the murder mystery aspect(although it’s not really a mystery), but the show falls off in so many other areas. 3.5, at best. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/21/24 Full Review Heather N So far the series has done a masterful job of tieing together the threads of it's nonlinear story telling. Not only does the audience get to piece things together with the main characters but we also uncover more about themselves as they explore what happened to Renna Virk. Not only do both leading actresses Lily Gladstone (Cam Bentland) and Riley Keough (Rebecca Godfrey) put fourth emotionally raw and talented performances, but the whole cast including the show's antagonists and supporting cast give a job damn well done. I can only hope that this series gets considered for the upcoming reward season has it has earned it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/21/24 Full Review Audience Member Great acting, cinematography and storytelling. While I have conflicted feelings about fictionalized true crime series these days, especially when the series doesn’t have the victim’s family’s blessing, the execution is top tier.
