Ben Pobjie The Age (Australia) If anything elevates Until I Kill You above most true crime fictionalisations, it’s the combination of choices made by Maxwell Martin and writer Nick Stevens in bringing to the screen an extraordinary and quite unconventional protagonist. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 13, 2025 Full Review Scott Bryan BBC.com What I found so compelling about this is that it really meticulously just went into failure. It's the failure of the communication between police departments and investigations, which allowed John to slip through the cracks. Rated: Must Watch Jan 8, 2025 Full Review Camilla Long Times (UK) This was worth watching for Anna Maxwell Martin alone, as Delia Balmer, a bonkers, twirling hippy nurse not unlike Emma Thompson’s character in The Tall Guy. Nov 18, 2024 Full Review Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) Enraging and inspiring in equal measure. Depressing, too, knowing the Met did not learn from their worst mistakes. Nov 14, 2024 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Until I Kill You is both quirky and harrowing... The performance of Anna Maxwell Martin brings out all of those story nuances, and makes the limited series a fascinating watch. Nov 12, 2024 Full Review Barbara Ellen Observer (UK) Like a lot of true crime shows, Until I Kill You can be bumpy and repetitive, but it succeeds as an uncompromising female-centred take on a well-trodden genre. Mike P Delia is a middle-aged London-area nurse, living in an upscale flat in the city, circa 1991...She's fiercely independent, and happens upon her first serious boyfriend when she hits 40. She meets him at a local bar; his name is John; and he's handsome, warm and articulate... They fall in love; she moves in with him, and the two have a volatile relationship for weeks...Until she learns that not only is he a total jerk; but a prolific serial killer to boot!... One of London's worst, actually! Typically high-quality and leisurely-paced Britbox true crime drama; follows familiar boyfriend-from-hell tropes; but we can see that this is honest and accurate; and it paints quite the picture of Delia's private hell; and the terror this man creates for the world. Part of the drama here is that Delia is a "bad victim"; that may or may not be contributing to the whole problem; and then how do they deal with that and still stop the killer. So it goes into a lot of fascinating and uncharted territories for this kind of true crime drama. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/25 Full Review Douglas G I had to make an important phone call at midnight, which is way past my usualy bedtime, so I had seen or heard something about Until I Kill You and thought it would be intense enough to keep me awake from 10:30, my usual bedtime, and my phone call.....well, at 2 a.m. the next morning I finished episode 4. Like a book you just "can't put down," this story was so damned compelling, I would have stayed up another two hours had it been necessary. A big part of the reason was because I was caring about what happened to a real person....This isn't fiction, it is a true story and I was both appalled and stricken by what happened to her, as a victim of a psychopath, for sure, but also of the "justice system" even more. A victim being victimized a second, third, fourth time......I would not have been able to sleep at all had I not finished binge watching the entire series......worrying about Debra. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/11/25 Full Review Cindy M EXCEPTIONALLY well acted, fast paced, but filled with heart for the main character Delia Balmer who survived a near fatal attack from a former boyfriend. One watches and is so moved, as to hope that Delia finds peace and joy. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/02/25 Full Review king k I have never witnessed such an extraordinary female performance that authentically captures the reality of a woman who is unconventional in her thinking, being, and perception of the world. Anna’s portrayal is breathtaking, offering a beautiful glimpse into the richness of neurodivergence—a perspective that is too often misunderstood or overlooked. The way the series explores how trauma and PTSD have shaped her, influencing her behaviour and interactions, is so raw and authentic. It’s heartbreaking to watch her being mistreated by the very police who are supposed to protect her, highlighting systemic failings. While the horrors of abuse inflicted by her partner are deeply troubling, this is a narrative we've seen on television many times before. What sets this performance apart is the series’ focus on her true self—her resilience, her struggles, and her unique perspective on the world. For those who have never experienced mistreatment by the system, the police, or others in power—and who have never known the hopelessness of feeling like there is no way out—this series might be difficult to fully grasp. But for those of us who have, Anna’s performance is transformative. For the first time, I felt truly seen and represented, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have witnessed such a groundbreaking portrayal. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/11/24 Full Review Dave C The more you watch, the better AMM's performance is. She is cast so well in this role, and it comes as a bit of a surprise, as she has played more straightforward characters previously. Delia is more complex, with evident social and neurodivergent elements to her character. The story of her endurance of abuse, repeated incompetencies leaving her vulnerable, and how she comes out the other side is remarkable Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/22/24 Full Review Debbra W Incredible performances and as far fetched as it seems, the lack of being seen and heard is all too familiar! It is inspiring and terrifying Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review Read all reviews
