Oscar and Emmy winner Kevin Costner is the marquee attraction of the ensemble cast in this drama series, starring as the patriarch of a powerful, complicated family of ranchers. A sixth-generation homesteader and devoted father, John Dutton controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. He operates in a corrupt world where politicians are compromised by influential oil and lumber corporations and land grabs make developers billions. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect, Dutton's property is in constant conflict with those it borders -- an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and America's first national park.

Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) The simple truth is that it’s a lusty, larger-than-life soap opera that harks back to the big-haired prime of Dallas and Dynasty, with a hint of Cormac McCarthy’s cowboy stoicism. Rated: 3/5 Jan 9, 2025 Full Review Kristen Baldwin Entertainment Weekly The series, which proved linear television could still produce a gargantuan hit, ended as it began, celebrating an idealized America where a man (always a man) can live life the way his God intended — independent and free from the tyranny of the Other. Rated: B+ Dec 16, 2024 Full Review Lauren Michele Jackson The New Yorker The showrunner Taylor Sheridan has been given wide latitude to iterate on the world of the Dutton ranching family, but he’s best when honoring his Western’s melodramatic core. Feb 10, 2023 Full Review Kristi Turnquist Oregonian If the Season 5 premiere of Yellowstone doesn’t exactly soar, it does serve up Dallas-style drama, juicy performances (particularly by Reilly) and gorgeous scenery. Nov 30, 2022 Full Review Fred Schruers AARP Movies for Grownups Self-reliance and refusal to capitulate are deeply imbued in the American grain, and never more intensely than right now. Yellowstone’s new season captures that feeling -- that’s why it’s riding higher than ever. Nov 29, 2022 Full Review Alex Maidy JoBlo's Movie Network No fans will be disappointed by this premiere as Taylor Sheridan’s family drama continues to deserve to be one of the most popular series on television. Projects of the H I truly hate that they ended this series. I really loved watching this show. I wish that they would have continued with series to see how Beth, Kayce and Rip move forward after Yellowstone gets taken over and goes back to its natural setting. I would also love to see a spin off of the 4 sixes and see how Jimmy or Teeter are doing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/07/25 Full Review SANFORD MAINE R Pile of garbage, previous series were amazing ! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/06/25 Full Review massimo h This has got to be the worst last season i’ve ever witnessed. I stopped watching because it was so bad and i only had 2 episodes left. After a while i just finished it and it was worse than i could’ve imagined. The whole season was just poor writing poor storylines and just terrible actions by the characters. And it was so damn predictably you knew what was gonna happen from the first episode. I cannot believe it was this bad. Honestly don’t watch the show because the last season is just so damn bad Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/02/25 Full Review Scottie M I'm reviewing the second part of season 5 because, frankly, the first part finished almost two years before the second and nobody has time to remember that far back. Yellowstone has trouble figuring out what it wants to be and who its audience is. Does it want to be a Testocerone filled man-show? Does it want to focus on everyone's love life? Does it want to be a crime investigation saga? This show tries to do everything at once, and fails in doing so. We get it. Rip and Beth love each other. We don't need every other scene to be about them telling each other this. At the same time, Kayce loves his family and will do whatever he needs to in order to keep them safe. Again: This could be summarized in a three minute scene. Along these lines, Kayce is a weak character and had been one throughout the entire run of the show. The writers never figured out what they wanted to do with him before suddenly placing him as one of the primary leads in the second part of season 5. Furthermore, maybe Montana is just weird, but the idea that the livestock warden would have any authority in relation to a human autopsy is simply laughable. I found myself fast-forwarding through many of the Rip/Beth and Kayce/Family scenes once it became apparent that they did not drive the plot. Oh...there was another character. Jamie. He's in a few scenes in this run. Any character evolvement Jamie had over the previous seasons is out the window. We never liked the guy, but there was never any indication he would turn out like this. The second part of season 5 could have been wrapped up in two or three episodes. Instead, we have scenes where we watch a truck drive through Texas for five minutes. We watch endless dialog scenes that have nothing to do with the plot. We have two very unsatisfying resolutions to first the ranch, and then the overall plot. Season 5 is worth watching if you've struggles through the previous four seasons, but someone interested in starting the show might want to find their entertainment elsewhere. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review Jonathan H After sticking with this mostly-ridiculous melodrama for 5 seasons, I was willing to go along with some of it, but this final season was just not good. Incredibly slow, very fragmented, and ultimately pointless. I felt almost zero sympathy for any of the main or surviving characters, and the ones I did feel sympathy for barely got any screen time. Most of these characters remain as one-dimensional at the close of the show as they were at the beginning, which makes it all feel like a pointless circle. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/20/25 Full Review Phillip D The wait for episode 9 to drop should have at least been met with an episode that respected the audience. Completely disjointed 1st half of the episode. Doesn’t make sense scene to scene. I honestly thought one commercial cut away skipped a whole episode. This turns my stomach, and I’d never do business with this outfit again including whichever actors were to blame (if so). With Costner this show had credit as a ranching drama. Without him it’s an expensive soap for men. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/21/25 Full Review Read all reviews
