Anna Madeley was an English actress who first gained prominence on the stage, before successfully branching out into film and television. Born on March 8, 1976 in London, England, Madeley began acting while still a student at North London Collegiate School. She first appeared onscreen at the age of 9 in the film "Claudia" (1985). After training at the Central School of Speech and Drama , Madeley found work on British television, appearing in the likes of "Cold Feet" (ITV, 1997-2003, 2016-), "Dad" (BBC1, 1997-1998), and "An Unsuitable Job for a Woman" (ITV, 1997-2001). Madeley spent two seasons with the Royal Shakespeare Company, first in 2001-2002, then in 2003-2004. During that time, she appeared in a production of "The Roman Actor" alongside Sir Anthony Sher. The next year saw even more success on the stage, as Madeley appeared in three off-West End productions in 2005 alone, with roles in "Colder Than Here," "The Philanthropist," and "The Cosmonaut's Last Message " If that weren't enough, she closed out the year by starring as Aaron and Young Alexander Ashbrook in the Royal National Theatre's production of "Coram Boy." For the next few years, Madeley once again focused on television, appearing in the BBC TV original films "The Secret Life of Mrs. Beeton" (BBC, 2006), and "Aftersun" (BBC, 2006), as well as ITV's controversial drama "The Outsiders" (ITV, 2006). After making an appearance on the crime drama "Consent" (Channel 4, 2007), Madeley returned to stage, filling in at the last minute Nina in a production of "The Seagull" when the original actress had to drop out due to medical issues. After taking on a small role in playwright Martin McDonaugh's debut feature film "In Bruges" (2008), Madeley made her Broadway debut in 2009, when she reprised her role in "The Philanthropist," making her the only original cast member to appear in the revival. Madeley next co-starred in the period piece "The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister" (2010), a biopic of Britain's so-called "first modern lesbian." Madeley made an especially spooky return to the stage in 2013, when she starred in the first ever theatrical production from the legendary horror production company Hammer Films, a stage adaptation of "The Turn of the Screw" (2013). Following a run as Elizabeth Proctor in the Old Vic theater's revival of "The Crucible" in 2014, Madeley landed her biggest role yet, appearing as Clarissa Eden in Netflix's acclaimed drama series "The Crown" (Netflix, 2016-).
