Béla Balázs
Balasz wrote and directed several films but is best known for his theoretical tomes, "The Visible Man" (1924) and "Theory of the Film" (1945). He championed the new medium, stressing its purely visual capacity and its ability to reveal human emotions through subtle physical gestures.
