DJ Quik
Born and raised in Compton, California, DJ Quik, whose real name is David Marvin Blake, has been a major force in West Coast hip-hop since the early 1990s. His debut album, "Quik Is the Name" (1991), featured standout tracks like "Tonite" and "Born and Raised in Compton," establishing his signature G-funk sound. Over the years, DJ Quik released several highly praised albums, including "Way 2 Fonky" (1992), "Rhythmalism" (1998), and "The Book of David" (2011). Beyond his solo work, Quik is a sought-after producer, having worked with iconic artists such as Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, and Ludacris. His music has also made its mark in Hollywood, contributing to the soundtracks of films like "John Henry" (2020) and "You People" (2023), as well as TV shows like "Everybody Hates Chris" (UPN, 2005-2009) and "Nick Cannon Presents Wild'n'Out" (MTV, 2005-). His most recent album called "CHUPACABRAS" (2024), continues to showcase his signature sound. He remains an influential figure in hip-hop, continuing to perform and shape the sound of the West Coast.
