Geoffrey Fletcher
Having struggled for the good part of a decade working various temporary jobs to make ends meet, screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher finally realized his dream of making movies when he adapted Push by Sapphire into the acclaimed award-winning drama, "Precious" (2009). Fletcher was born the youngest of three sons in Waterford, CT, to Alphonse, Sr., a technician employed by the Electric Boat Corporation in Groton, and his mother, Bettye, a longtime educator and social worker who served as the dean of students at New London Junior High School and principal of Winthrop School. She later become the director of the Fletcher Foundation, a non-profit group supporting civil rights and environmental education created by his eldest brother, Alphonse, Jr. After graduating from the private college prep school, Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, he attended Harvard University, where he earned his bachelor's in psychology. An aspiring filmmaker since he was 14 years old when he first began playing around with a movie camera, Fletcher earned his master's degree in film from New York University's acclaimed Tisch School of the Arts.
