Gilles Paquet-Brenner
21st century French filmmaker Gilles Paquet-Brenner made his award-winning feature debut in 2001. "Pretty Things," a dark sibling drama, won Best Script at the Deauville Film Festival and earned a César Award nomination for the performance of its leading lady, Marion Cotillard. Paquet-Brenner followed up on its success in 2003 with "Gomez & Tavarés," a crime comedy in the tradition of explosive '70s buddy pictures. The wildly popular film earned a sequel in 2007, and Paquet-Brenner returned as the writer and director of "Gomez & Tavarés, la Suite." Expanding into unfamiliar territory, his next film was a venture into the horror thriller genre, "Walled In" (2008), starring Mischa Barton of "The O.C." fame. In 2010, Paquet-Brenner shifted gears again for the investigative drama "Sarah's Key," an adaptation of the novel by Tatiana de Rosnay. Set in present-day France, the film focuses on a Parisian journalist who unravels the story of a young girl whose family was torn apart by the Holocaust. Among Paquet-Brenner's other noteworthy work is "UV" (2007), starring Marthe Keller and Jacques Dutronc, a picturesque mystery set in the south of France about a vacationing family who meet a charming but uninvited stranger.
