California native James Marsters was educated at several prominent schools, including Juilliard Drama School. After honing his schools on stage, he relocated to Los Angeles, and in 1992 he broke into television with appearances on two episodes of "Northern Exposure." His big breakthrough came in 1997, when he took the role of the blonde vampire "Spike" on the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" television series. An immediate favorite with the show's fans, the character was also featured on the spin-off series, "Angel." Notable later Marsters roles include the supervillain "Brainiac" on several episodes of "Smallville," and the treacherous Captain John Hart on the BBC "Doctor Who" spin-off series, "Torchwood." Marsters has also appeared as a villain in "Dragon Ball: Evolution," the live-action adaptation of the "Dragon Ball" anime/manga franchise, and as astronaut Buzz Aldrin on the History Channel's docudrama "Moonshot." In 2009 he was cast as terrorist Barnabus Greeley on the Syfy Channel series "Caprica." He has continued to work in theater and has also had a thriving career as a singer-songwriter, first with the band Ghost of the Robot and then as a highly successful solo artist.
