Jeremy Lloyd was a British comedian and writer who created such beloved sitcoms as "'Allo 'Allo!" (BBC 1982-1992) and "Are You Being Served?" (BBC 1972-1985). He was born in London, England in 1930 to a dancer mother and engineer father, though he was raised by his grandmother. Rather than go to college, he took odd jobs, working as a junior assistant at a menswear store and as a travelling paint salesman. He began acting and writing for film in the late '50s, making his acting debut in the comedy "School for Scoundrels" (1960). He appeared in many television shows and movies, including uncredited appearances in many of The Beatles' movies. In 1972, he co-created the sitcom "Are You Being Served?" The popular series was partially based on Lloyd's experience working in a department store. Lloyd and his writing partner David Croft went on to write another successful sitcom, 'Allo 'Allo!," about a small town café in wartime France. Lloyd published his autobiography, entitled Listen Very Carefully - I Shall Say This Only Once in 1993. After three other failed marriages over the years, he married Elizabeth Moberly in August of 2014. In December of that year, he passed away at age 84 of pneumonia in a London hospital.
