In addition to shooting hoops, Jimmy Butler also shot for the stars by extending his entertainment career into the entertainment business. In his early acting career, Butler appeared in such films as the Margaret Sullavan drama "Only Yesterday" (1933), "Manhattan Melodrama" (1934) with Clark Gable and the Pauline Lord dramatic adaptation "Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch" (1934). He also appeared in "No Greater Glory" (1934) and the comedy "Romance in Manhattan" (1934) with Francis Lederer. He continued to act in productions like the Fredric March dramatic adaptation "The Dark Angel" (1935), the western "Battle of Greed" (1937) with Tom Keene and "County Fair" (1937) with John Arledge. He also appeared in the dramatic adaptation "Stella Dallas" (1937) with Barbara Stanwyck. Film continued to be his passion as he played roles in "Boys Town" (1938) with Spencer Tracy, the Billy Halop drama "Call a Messenger" (1939) and the Anna Neagle drama "Nurse Edith Cavell" (1939). He also appeared in "Winter Carnival" (1939). Most recently, Butler worked on "Dancing At Lughnasa" (1998) with Meryl Streep.
