Joseph Mell was a big screen film actor known for powerful performances. Mell began his acting career with roles in such films as "Kid Monk Baroni" (1952), the John Ireland drama "The 49th Man" (1953) and the Judy Garland drama "A Star Is Born" (1954). He also appeared in "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" (1957) with Michael Landon. His film career continued throughout the fifties and the sixties in productions like the crime picture "Murder By Contract" (1958) with Vince Edwards, "Back Street" (1961) with Susan Hayward and the James Garner spy thriller "36 Hours" (1964). He also worked in television during these years, including a part on "The Twilight Zone" (CBS, 1959-1964). Toward the end of his career, he tackled roles in "Lord Love a Duck" (1966) and the adaptation "Sweet Charity" (1969) with Shirley MacLaine. He also was featured in the TV movies "The Delphi Bureau" (ABC, 1971-72) and "The Strangers in 7A" (CBS, 1972-73). Mell last appeared in "McNamara's Band" (ABC, 1976-77). Mell passed away in August 1977 at the age of 62.
